Kathy and I always make up trick or treat bags and deliver them to the neighbor children. Our road is very busy and narrow with nowhere to walk safely so kids seldom go door to door here. Kids usually go to a trunk or treat event at a church or at the local sheriff's office parking lot but this year with the pandemic many of those events have been cancelled. We fill a Ziploc bag with candy and home made cookies, but this year we are sticking with wrapped candy, coloring books and crayons for the little ones and kid's word search books for the kids old enough to read and do the puzzles.
I went to the next door neighbor's and buzzed them from the gate at the end of their driveway. They have a huge Great Dane so they have an electrically operated gate and a 4 foot fence. They answered the intercom by the gate and told me that I should leave the treat bags next to the outside of the gate for them to retrieve after I have left because he and his wife have both tested positive for Covid 19.
Their son is my helper that comes over and picks up walnuts, rakes a few leaves or weeds for me in between the plants where I can't get to with the tiller. He was here last week one day to pick up walnuts so I could mow. Thank goodness I was busy running errands and was not out there in the yard with him. My only contact was to open the back door a foot or so, thank him and hand him a $20 bill out the door.
I have to think the new neighbor up behind us had be wondering what the hell was going on when they came home from work today. They both work so no one is home during the day. When they got home tonight they were greeted by three Ziploc bags of candy and a note duct taped to panels on their garage door. LOL
That is the first time we have had anyone we know personally who has tested positive for the virus. Thank goodness we haven't been in close proximity to any of them lately.
