Record coronavirus cases puts Onondaga County ‘at a very concerning place’ Syracuse, N.Y. – The rise of new coronavirus cases to record levels indicates the virus is spreading faster, experts say. “We’re at a very concerning place,” said Dr. Kathryn Anderson, a professor of medicine and immunology at Upstate Medical University. “The rate of transmission is still creeping up and we’re heading into winter.” On Wednesday, Onondaga County reported 70 new confirmed cases, the highest one-day total since the pandemic began in March. That number follows a trend of increasing cases over the last two weeks: The past seven days have seen 354 new cases, a 35% increase over the previous seven days. continued www.syracuse.com/coronavirus/2020/10/record-coronavirus-cases-puts-onondaga-county-at-a-very-concerning-place.htmlThis is rather depressing.

A few days ago someone hosted a house party in Marcy & 50 h.s. kids attended from Whitesboro, Saquoit, New Hartford & another district, the name escapes me. So far 2 cases have shown up so now the county health dept. is in a mad dash to find out who attended so they can contact trace. It's going to be a long winter.

Apparently, there's 1 positive case, not 2. My bad.

Our county and our healthcare system is also experiencing a large increase in cases. The hospitals are restricting elective surgeries and have used the time since last March to get a handle on preparations for larger numbers of Covid patients with increased Covid beds with all the special air handling and isolation features. It is a scary time in our lives. Just today while shopping for a couple of items at Food City I was thinking how I never thought we would see the day when the general public would be wearing surgical masks. Nor did I ever think we would see a sanitation station at the front of stores, equipped with spray sanitizer for the carts, hand sanitizer for the customers hands, and a box of disposable masks for those that didn't bring one with them. Shopping is an eerie experience. People wandering the aisles, dodging others, backing up against the shelves to try and distance themselves from another shopper passing in the aisle. Non of the normal chit chat among customers. Very quiet with people getting what they need, and getting the hell out, hoping that they haven't been exposed by someone they passed in the store.
