Supposed to be on and off showers here today and buy Friday night the night time temperatures will start falling into the low thirties so I will be setting up the compressor in the carport, blowing out the waterlines on the camping trailer, and pumping the lines full of RV antifreeze.
Still trying to find a good deal on a bagging attachment for the new tractor. The damned things cost over $350. That is only about 50 bucks more than the bagger on the old tractor was 18 yrs ago.
Otherwise I will have to hire my go-to teen to drag the rest of the leaves across the road to the compost pile on a tarp. I don't do well with raking and dragging anymore since I broke my back in 1996. Small tasks like raking, dragging things, weed eating, or any repetitive twisting really raises hell with my lower back in my old age.

Can't you just use a leaf blower & blow them into your neighbor's yard?

LOL! My poor neighbor just had surgery on his knee due to a fall on a wet floor at work. He fell and shattered his patella into 10 pieces that they had to piece back together. If I get a bagger in time I will probably do his leaves for him while I am finishing mine. I love the new tractor. I just wish I could find a bagger for it.

I'm hoping to get another season out of my Bolens which wil be 11 years old next year. When I start it, it blows blue smoke, so we'll see next year how it holds up. I went to Tractor Supply in N.Utica the other day for some birdseed & sitting out front was a rider for $600. I think it was Huskee, I didn't stop to look at it. It has to be either a return or they just want to get rid of it. But, I just spent $1700. at a periodontist within the past month to get treatment for periodontal disease or I would have grabbed it. My insurance wil reimburse me $400.00. Ugh!

The Husky may have been a "recon." I looked at a Troy Bilt at Home Depot but walked away when I found that it would not have factory warranty. They had dropped the price significantly but no warranty, no sale. For $600 I might have been more than happy to take it off their hands, haha. That is one hell of a price for a new model mower even if it is a reconditioned return. It blows blue smoke? No worry YET. haha. I had a 1990 model craftsman that was Kathy's dad's mower when we first moved here that smoked until it warmed up. It got so it would take about a half a cup or more of oil every time I mowed and as it got even older the compression got so bad that when I shut it down it would take a second or two to "wind down" and stop with a pop back through the carb, but it lasted about a year after we moved here and I was mowing our 3/4 of an acre and over 1/2 acre at my parent's house. It was only a 12hp and pulling the hills in our yard made it work pretty hard. That was the main reason for buying the 18hp Craftsman. Someone from my sister's church took it and used it for almost another year, but they didn't have half the lawn that I do. You probably won't need the mower much more this season. I see that the Utica area can expect snow tonight. As long as the snow blower is tuned up and ready you are good to go. I was telling Kathy this morning at breakfast that the only thing that pissed me off about the old mower blowing up is that I had just changed the oil and the air filter and it has a full tank of gas, LOL. It is raining like hell here this morning and expected to continue to do so to one extent or another until Saturday morning. It is a steady downpour resulting from the hurricane. I get to play in the woodshop all day today. I have two foot plywood sides on my little garden trailer and they are almost 20 yrs old and showing the wear. I plan to take them off and replace them with a stake rack sort of sides. I have 64 feet of already painted 1x6 that I mistakenly bought and painted to replace the facia board on the garage only to find it needed to be about 1/2 inch wider. I can't be seen pulling a raggedy ass looking garden cart behind my shiny new bright red tractor, LOL.

I was going to go look at that tractor again but thouht the hell with it. I'll take my chances with the Bolens next year. Done mowing this year, for sure. I ran some StaBil thru it, sprayed down the engine with a light coating of WD-40, pulled the battery & hosed down under the deck. All my small engines are put to bed for this year. Now, it's time to get the snowblower running. I hope I treated the fuel last spring because the tank is full. Memory fails me......

The big maple still has about 25% of its leaves. Raining now and snow tonight. About half the leaves have ended up on my neighbor's yard. I guess it would be legitimate for him to blow them back into my yard but he won't do that.
Last year it dropped a limb which bounced off the fence and ended up in his yard. We went over and cleaned it up. Michael always loves a chance to run the chain saw.

A maple from our neighbors yard came down in a t-storm & wiped out a beautiful blue spruce on our side. I had to cut it down, broke my heart even though it was only a tree. Our dog use to lay in the shade that it threw. If you plant a tree like that it would take 15-20 years to grow out.

Good Lord how big are everyone's trees on your property! Say trees were being planted along the new strip of land created up the middle of Genesee St in North Utica around Harbor Point. What a project this has become. It will seem strange to see trees growing in the middle of the highway. I guess this is a part of the greening of America and creating more green space. What is next pray tell. I heard several thousands of trees and shrubs of various species.

This particular maple was mature when we moved here in 1984. If I climbed a 15 ft ladder (not that I would do such a thing now) I would not be able to put my arms around it's main trunk. I had a couple arborists look at it. The most they recommended would be anchoring a couple of big limbs to the trunk with cables. I think that would be ugly.

As far as I'm concerned, the more trees the better as long as their not a hazard. Forest areas all over this Country are under assualt from invasive insect species, global warming, over development, the logging industry & forest fires. It's a shame.
