I have been shopping around for a small relatively inexpensive 9mm semi auto handgun to carry concealed. I found a SCCY model CPX2 and negotiated a deal for an even up trade for my Ithaca 12ga shotgun and he threw in a box of ammo. I haven't hunted in many years and the shotgun has sat in the gun cabinet gathering dust. The only cash that changed hands was $10 for the background check. I haven't used any of my long guns other than a 22 rifle since we moved here. Now I have the shooting bug again and can't wait to try this new pistol. Yep, they got me. I traded for the SCCY 9mm but on that same visit I put a Taurus G2C 380 caliber on layaway. Then I will have one for concealed carry and one for the house. www.bing.com/images/search?q=sccy+model+cpx-2+photos&id=E16C092F15EA1279DB986A7850D555F57D632AD8&form=IQFRBA&first=1&scenario=ImageBasicHoverI had to be at the hand specialist at 8:30 this morning in Johnson City to get a cortisone injection in my ring finger for "trigger finger" so I put my shotgun in the truck to see if I could make a deal with it toward a hand gun. Man that injection hurts like hell. The cortisone burns when he puts it in. Left the doctor's office, grabbed an Egg McMuffin and coffee and started hitting the gun dealers. The second place I stopped had the gun and the deal I was looking for. Came home, jumped on the mower and cleaned up some more leaves ( they are falling as fast as I can clean them up.) All done for the day. Time for a quick snooze before supper.

Congrats! Hope the only times you need to use it is for practice. Hope the hand is better by now. Ouch on that injection. Enjoy the racking of the leaves. Mother Nature puts on a display for all to enjoy than blesses us with an abundance of work picking up her remnants.

Mother Nature puts on a display for all to enjoy than blesses us with an abundance of work picking up her remnants. Thanks PB. Yes, I agree. I also hope that my shooting is all restricted to target practice. Some may find it a bit alarmist, but I firmly subscribe to the theory that it is better to have a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not have one. I have always believed that, but I never thought I would see a time when people were being shot in the streets, dragged from cars and beaten, or killed while attending church. I sadly never thought I would find it prudent to carry a weapon. I have owned weapons since I was old enough to hunt or possess one. I am not a cowboy who would brandish a gun or un-holster it unless I had every intention of defending myself against someone who also has a weapon or is a direct threat to my life or someone else's. I took the gun to a friend's house in the mountains nearby where they have a pistol range in their back yard with a mountain side as a backstop. I need the practice. I haven't held a handgun in many years. This particular little short barreled weapon isn't intended for long range accuracy. With practice I was able to put five shots in a 12 inch circular group from about 40 feet. I was surprised. That little bugger barks loud and a 9mm has a pretty good kick. It took a while to get comfortable firing it. It has a stronger trigger spring and a longer trigger pull than I really like but it is actually a pretty nice little gun. It is only about 6 inches in overall length and is fairly light even with a loaded 7 shot magazine. It fits nicely in a small holster that clips over my waist band and tucks inside the waist of my jeans, undetectable under an untucked polo shirt. There are many more people carrying legally permitted concealed weapons here in the South than in your area but if I lived in the inner city anywhere I would not go out the door without one in today's unstable and tumultuous world. With all the protesting going on I pretty much avoid crowds and you couldn't pay me to walk around downtown after dark even here where things have been peaceful so far. We have had some peaceful marches, but recently there "was a back the blue" march scheduled that had to be cancelled because social media indicated that there was an out of town Antifa group planning to counter protest. As for raking leaves PB, I haven't raked leaves in several years. For quite awhile I blew them up into large piles I hired a young lad that used to rake them onto a tarp and drag them across the road to the compost pile. When he grew up and discovered girls and no longer raked I started using the bagging attachment on the tractor that mulches them and blows them into two bins that are mounted on the back of the mower. I get the exercise and fresh air without the back breaking work of raking them. The amount of leaves has been reduced by half by removing the two large trees we had taken down this past summer.

Clipper- Congrats on getting your hand guns! Keep them clean, lubed and loaded. Teach your wife how to shoot the home gun, really. Have a minimum of 2 boxes of ammo for each gun. Knowing that you are "packing" when you are out and about, makes you more at ease and confident with your surroundings. Also great that you are putting in the range time. I hope that everyone, living in highly populated areas, seriously considers the possibility of local violence after the election, and, takes the proper steps to stay safe. This is not paranoia, just common sense.

It's a damn shame that people feel the need to arm themselves because they're concerned about violence resulting one way or the other on who wins a presidential election. This Country has gone to hell. It's unmanagable. The lunatic fringe on both sides is getting way to much attention & it has to stop. Neither of those groups has anything positive to offer the average person in this Country, imho.
I own a .22 rifle that I used for small game years ago. I got rid of my 12 gauge when I stopped hunting deer because of the cowboys out there. I've thought about getting a handgun but haven't done it yet. We'll see. Glad you found your handgun Clipper. Hope you never have to use it.

This is not paranoia, just common sense. I agree with the idea of feeling a bit more at ease with the idea of packing when I am out and about. The violence and instability we are witnessing is pretty damned alarming and who knows what will happen after the election. You can bet on one thing. I won't be going anywhere far from home for a day or so until we see what the reaction is to the results. Here is a little better photo of the weapon I bought. It is a nice little piece for what I want it for. www.sccy.com/product/cpx-2-tt-9mm/It fits into the pocket of my jeans, almost undetectable but I will use a holster that clips over the waist band so the gun can be inside the waist band of your pants, covered with an untucked shirt. This particular model doesn't have a safety, but I would not carry with a round in the chamber anyway. The Taurus that I put on layaway has a safety but I wouldn't carry that locked and loaded either. Like you Dick, I hope to never need to use it anywhere but the range. Even in the military most of us hoped we would never have to use our weapons. I feel safer around a trained veteran with a weapon than some young yahoo that just packs a gun to be a badass and that might be a bit quick to use it. Once that 9mm hollow point leaves the muzzle at a velocity of about 1200 feet per second, there is no calling it back and the person behind the gun better have the justification for having fired it.

I'm glad you've got yourself set there Clipper. The world has gone nuts and it's good to be prepared if you're out and about. I treat my gun like it was an American Express card. Lately there have been some drive by shootings of random pedestrians around town. I bet that would cease in a hurry if they started returning fire. I don't walk around here much anymore, but when I have to drop the truck off for something across town after work, I wind up walking home through a few sketchy spots. Having a friend on my side gives me a bit more assurance that I'll be coming home unscathed.
