I have been experiencing a very sore big toe and joint on my foot for a week or two. I has gotten so I can hardly put weight on my right foot without pain. I thought maybe gout or possibly a stress fracture. I went to urgent care for an xray and some sort of relief from the pain.
It turns out that the pain in my foot and toe is severe arthritis in the joint of my toe. Why it became so painful over such a short period of time is a mystery. They think it may be from being on the foot too much. Prescribed Voltarin ointment three times a day to alleviate the pain.
The REAL concern the doctor had is that my heart rate is quite low. It was only 48 when they took my vitals. It normally is in the low sixties. He recommended that I consult my cardiologist. I took it again when I got home and it was down to 42. My cardiologist wants to see me first thing tomorrow for an EKG and to look at adjusting some of my meds. Probably a matter of adjusting some of my medications. I have been on two meds that control heart rate since I had the ablation procedure for Afib a few years ago. He thinks that my significant weight loss may require a reduction in one or both of those meds.

So the pain came on quickly which sounds like gout and it was diagnosed with sever arthritis and gout is a form of arthritis and affected large toe and toe joint which is also attacked as in gout. Wow.

Hope that toe feels better. I put another coat of sealer on the driveway today, took me three hours. Now my feet are sore as hell from wearing an old pair of worn out sneakers which went in the garbage when I finished. Waiting for Tylenol to kick in.

I had an old pair of sneakers like that. I wore them to work in the garden but they started making my feet sore because they got too tight. They were pretty well worn out so I can't complain about the mileage I got for my money, haha. Jimmy had an old pair that he wore to do the silver seal on the roof. They looked like they were chrome plated when he was done, haha.
How is your back? Brushing that stuff on and the bending involved is tough on the old back for sure. Glad you got it done. Since I fell off a truck in 96 and shattered 4 vertebrae my back it doesn't tolerate that sort of thing anymore. I was quite content to pay to have this one done by professionals from a reputable paving company here locally. The same goes for sealing the garage roof. That silver crap is even thicker and harder to brush on than the driveway sealer.

I'll miss those old sneakers but when I got done they were covered with sealer & the sole on one was flapping under my feet. Lol. The back was sore as hell but is ok now. I bought a combo brush/squeege from Lowe's but of course "handle sold seperately". I used an extension pole for a paint roller but it wasen't long enough. A longer pole would have made it easier not having to lean over as much. I bought 3 more buckets but only used two of them with some left over for touch ups & I'll return the unused one for store credit. Now on to the next bucket list item.
Goid luck with your cardio appt. today.

Gout can be very painful. A decades old medication (colchicine) knocked mine down quickly. An adjustment to your cardio meds should have you feeling better.

I guess I am lucky that they don't think it is gout. Just arthritis in that big toe joint thank goodness. I used the Voltarin ointment and it seems to help. Just one more place where arthritis has set up camp, haha. So far I have it in my hands, my spine, and my right wrist that was fractured years ago. I don't think I know anyone my age that hasn't seen a visit or two from Arthur Itis. lol
He took me off Cardvedilol. I was taking it for BP twice a day. He cut the Amlodipine to once a day a few weeks instead of twice. Carvedilol slows the heart rate along with lowering blood pressure. He said he hates to adjust the Amiodarone that was prescribed after my heart ablation procedure several years ago. He said I could possibly go back into Afib if he messes with that one. He ordered blood work to check thyroid levels. The amiodarone can mess with the thyroid levels.
He said that the large weight loss and change in diet could result in the need to adjust some of my meds downward. Back in one month and if my BP is holding well or running low he is going to adjust the amlodipine dosage downward to a lighter dose pill also. He also said that with the gains I have made in losing weight and adjusting to a low sodium, low fat diet, I may eventually be able to eliminate BP medication completely. He was impressed with the Lipid panel results also.

That is what I wanted to happen. Eliminate BP medication completely. For some reason that concept of mine is not working. Maybe when I see him Oct 5th. My pulse is around 48 also and doesn't go up much when I walk even fast well kinda fast for my age. I take 10 mg amlodipine a day also along with Bisoprolol and another BP med to lower BP and I forgot the name of that one.
Glad you are feeling better..

Carvedilol is a BP medicine that also lowers your heart rate. It is a teeny tiny white pill. They put me on that a month or so ago because taking amlodipine twice a day was making my ankles swell. It is one of the side effects. Substituted the carvedilol to hold my BP down at night and kept me on amlodipine in the morning.
