Chicken wings test positive for coronavirus (report) STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- A batch of imported frozen food was found by Chinese officials to have traces of the coronavirus (COVID-19), Reuters reported, though experts maintain there is no evidence the virus can be spread via food transmission. The virus was detected Wednesday on a sample taken from a batch of chicken wings during a screening in the Longgang district of Shenzhen, the government said in a statement. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says “there is no evidence to support transmission of COVID-19 associated with food,” and, “because of poor survivability of these coronaviruses on surfaces, there is likely very low risk of spread from food products or packaging.” The chicken wings were transported from Brazil, according to the Reuters report, and samples on the packaging of frozen Ecuadorian shrimp sold in Xian City in China also tested positive for the virus. While it is currently unclear how the virus got onto the packages, local health authorities said anyone who might have come into contact with the potentially contaminated products were tested. All results came back negative, according to the report. MORE ON CORONAVIRUS www.syracuse.com/coronavirus/2020/08/chicken-wings-test-positive-for-coronavirus-report.htmlNOT GOOD
