I took my truck into the shop today to have the tires rotated. When the tech went out to get my truck he told me my front license plate was missing. I'll be damned, I haden't even noticed because I usually back my truck into our driveway. Some lowlife had stolen it because when I got home I looked & sure enough the screws holding the plate on were laying in my driveway. Sooooo, I called DMV. I got thru & was informed that I would have to drop the other plate off with paperwork to the DMV office to get new plates & the turnaround time was 2 weeks. Wonderful. But, my registration renewal is mid September anyway so I went ahead & processed that online & ordered new plates. I should have everything within 2 weeks after handing over $153.00 to NYSDMV. I hope the dirtbag who stole my plate has fun with it.

I also quite often back the truck into the driveway. I have contemplated the idea of getting cameras. At present I have a flood light that illuminates the flag pole at night and double flood light fixtures that illuminate the entire driveway from two angles. There is also a motion light that lights up on the back porch if you get within a few feet of the step. That light also has a 100 watt flood in one side that is aimed toward the gate and up into the back yard for when I walk the dog after dark.
When I drive into the driveway after dark the place lights up like Yankee Stadium during a night time double header.

There are 2 lights on either side of our front step but there not motion sensored. And I hate leaving them on all nite because they draw bugs. I've been wanting to replace them for some time but never got around to it. Looks like I'll be headed to Lowe's or HD for new lights with motion sensors.

When I was living in Syracuse and working for a time I had not only license plates stolen but some one in the neighborhood was going around loosing the lug nuts on peoples tires. I had it happen to me and was not to pleased when I had to just about make it into a gas station so as to have them tightened back up on one tire. Several weeks later it happened again to someone's else car down the street from me BUT he had a camera and was able to film the kid doing it. I hate to tell you it but that kid got one hell of a beating first by some anonymous person but also by the kids father. I wonder if he is still walking...lol

BHU... you might consider reporting your stolen license number to the police in case they happen to spot or stop a car that's using it. Chances are they'll get arrested. That's one way to get back at the 'perp'.

Yes BHU, definitely call the police and report the plate stolen. Years ago I had an pair of old license plates laying around on a bench in my shed so I tossed them in the trash. Somewhere between my throwing it out and it reaching a final destination at the landfill someone acquired it and used it. It was quite some time later that the state police called me and wanted to talk to me about my car with the switched and expired plate that they had found abandoned beside the road in Steuben. I really had a bit of a hard time convincing them that it was not my car and that I had tossed the plates in the trash. They were wanting me to pay to have the car towed also. One would have thought that if a person was driving a car with switched plates and it died beside the road, they would take the plates off of it. The plates were commercial plates off of a truck that I had gotten rid of and whoever took them and used them had them on a rusted out old VW bug. The trooper finally ran the VIN number and let me go on my way. He was going to pursue the issue with the last registered owner of the VW. I never heard any more about it.

Can you put a cardboard plate with the license number on it along with "lost plate?" I see Virginia registered cars here that have a cardboard lost plate sign on their vehicle but still have the remaining plate of the pair.
At least it wasn't the rear plate with the year sticker on it.

They make some very good yellow LED floodlights now. Cheap to leave on and don't draw bugs. I have one facing down my driveway and it lights it up nice without being overly blinding/irritating to everyone. I have a large 6000lm flood on a motion detector that lights up when you get into the area where I park the truck by the back of the house, and of course a slew of cameras all around the place, some on the house, some other places.

We havr camera's on each floor of my building as well as outside on walkways and parking lot. Big problem is there is no one available in the office to go over them if something happens which I find strange. Last year someone broke into the building( threw a brick through the glass door in front) and sacked our community room spraying it with foam from fire extinguishers and ruining all the many books in the so called library. Police and fire department were here and I went down to see the commotion. I said why doesn't someone look at the film in the camera's. That was never done. We have also had burglary in the parking lot but no one bothers with camera;s. Makes me wonder they they are just a deterrent and not the real thing.
However with the intellectual level of those in charge makes me wonder why anything makes sense around here. Which it doesn't. Guy next door is using illegal drugs. I checked the aroma I am getting and it is either crack cocaine he is smoking or crystal meth. I can hardly breath which is why I am moving soon I hope. Waiting lists are outrageous around here unless ya want to live at the Obliston or its twin apartment The Roosevelt.

I'll look into that Ralph. I have a solar powered light that someone gave me & I never put it up because I figured it would be too dim to do any good. Today I'll put it in the sun & tonight I'll see how bright it gets & how long the light stays lit. If it works it's going on my garage facing the driveway.

At least it wasn't the rear plate with the year sticker on it. If I did that I probably WOULD get pulled over. Lol. In any case I drove the truck up to Clayon via Rte 12 & all over up there plus back here & never got pulled over. I'm sure a couple cops & SP saw the missing plate. So the hell with it. I have a new temp registration that I printed from DMV with the old & new plate no's to show them if I do get pulled over. Hopefully sometime next week I'll get the new plates & sticker from them.

Seems like they always take the front as for some reason we all dont seem to notice that one. I had my front plate stolen but back then I reported it to the police but never went to DMV (at least dont remember to do so) still have my report. I thought they took it cause it was a personalized plate.
