We spent yesterday afternoon at Barb's brother's lake place on Oneida Lake. Very pleasant: socializing, a couple beers, on their deck overlooking the lake. I was in the shade but of course UV reflects off the lake. Today I look at my normally pale legs and realize "TAN LINES MATTER."

I made believe I was at a Lake. I filled a pan with water went to the park placed it on the ground then sat on a bench and stared at it. My legs, fave and arms are nicely tanned.

I don't know if it is a fact but it seems that the UV rays are intensified when it is reflected off water. One of the worst sunburns I ever got was from reflected UV rays. Another Griffiss firefighter and I applied that silver roof seal to the entire roof of Ed Blask Ford when it was on Rt12 in Barneveld. We wore shirts and a cap with a bandana covering the back of our necks. We worked up on that roof for 3 hot and sunny days and we both ended up with a pretty severe sunburn on our faces from the sun reflecting back up in our face as we worked bent over brushing the sealer on the roof. My forehead and nose blistered and peeled and my lips all blistered up with what the doctor said was what some people call "sun poisoning."

Glad to hear it CB. Sunburn is not fun. I have stupidly over exposed myself and suffered for it a couple of times this summer. Life was a lot easier when I had a full head of hair, haha.

The worst I ever had was when I was a teen and spent a day fishing with my Dad, brother and Uncle Dale. On the water all day with no shade. My brother & I were both fried.

Yep! That will do it. I blistered my back once when I was stationed in Key West. We were snorkeling all afternoon, paddling about with our backs and the back of our legs exposed. It was difficult to wear a uniform shirt for a week or so. After it stopped burning and started to peel it itched like poison ivy for another week or so.
