Can you imagine. I was walking down Bleecker St toward Genesee St. Get to John Street and had to wait for light to turn red and a car coming up Bleecker St toward downtown with some 20 somethings in it threw a large firecracker at me. Luckily I was far enough ahead of it that just the bang made me jump. Idiots. I never thought of trying to snap a photo with my cell phone.

You need to apply for a concealed carry permit and carry a weapon for self defense. Just think of how you could contribute to cleaning up the streets. The UPD would probably give you an award of some sort.

For one who is not familiar with hand guns I would recommend the simplest form of firearm, a snub nosed, J frame revolver with a concealed hammer, chambered in .38 special ammo. Ruger and Smith & Wesson both have excellent choices. Small and very concealable.

Whether the offenders be white, black, yellow, or red, at some point we are going to have to step up and take back our streets and restore order. Whether it be police, national guard, or military action, what may have started out as justifiable protest has been turned into an unwarranted insurrection. The violence is no longer about excessive force by a small number of racist cops. It is no longer limited to an anti white supremacy or anti police issue. It is rapidly becoming an attempt to bring down law enforcement and law and order and public safety in general.

I probably should have notified the police about it even though I am sure nothing can be done but I think I will call and just let them know what happened. Do you and anyone else think that is a good thing to do. Who knows if someone gets seriously injured.

Well one little girl was badly burned when some sort of fireworks came through her bedroom window into her bed. I don't remember where it was. NYC possibly. In another incident they threw a large and powerful device of some sort next to a homeless man sleeping on the sidewalk and ran like hell. He was also badly burned. I heard through the grapevine that the trailer that burned in Verona was the home of a retired woman that was a dealer at Turning Stone before she retired. Her trailer was a total loss and the one next to it suffered damage also.

CuseYouthBLM has started a campaign to remove school resource officers from Syracuse schools. Brilliant. With that city overrun with thugs, gangbangers, punks & lowlifes & with shootings just about every single day that's one genius idea. If school district officials give in to this b.s. the first time something happens & some innocent kid is hurt or worse whoever went along with this stupidity should be fired on the spot.

The only time I carried was when I was in the army and my duty weapon was a .45. Never fired it outside the practice range but it is an intimidating weapon. The same design for more than a century. Imagine looking at a pistol pointed at you with a barrel almost 1/2 inch in diameter and a magazine which will empty in seconds.

Many people do not realize that a large number of students in some city school district are already have a record some felons and known very well by police. Believe me.
I remember when some school districts hired some security people. They were not police and were used to escort a student from a teachers class or lunch or study hall to the principles office. I also remember when things got so wacky that those people had the help of police officers in school. From what I know the school resource officers are very well respected.

The military 45 was in service for a very long time and served the military well, but with the 45 caliber ball type ammunition that the government used that thing was about as accurate as a sling shot.
It served it purpose well, as did the snub nosed 38 police revolver that was the weapon commonly issued to undercover detectives because it was easy to conceal, but once again, it was not the most accurate of weapons because of the short barrel.
The 38 special with a 4 inch barrel is much more accurate.
When I first went to work at Griffiss the military security police were carrying 45's for a sidearm, while their civilian law enforcement counterparts carried 38 specials. Go figure. I don't know for sure but I think that they used them up until the late 70's or early 80's. I think the government was buying 45's way back to WWI or before. The 45's we had in the armory on the destroyer I was on were all from the 40's.
The armory on that ship was filled with antiques. M-1 rifles, M-1 carbines, a half a dozen WWII vintage Thompson 45 caliber sub machine guns, 4 Browning automatic rifles (BAR), an old 30 caliber browning model 1919 machine gun that should the occasion arise was to be carried by a landing party, and two model M-2 50 calibers that were in a locker on the bridge to be mounted on the wings of the bridge if needed.
The flight line security police patrols and guards on the flight line at Griffiss carried M-16's when guarding alert aircraft.
I have not applied for a Tennessee carry permit, but I am looking to buy a handgun in the near future. It is not illegal to possess a handgun, and you can even carry it in a car, but you can't legally carry it on your person. Go figure.

My former brother in-law is a retired Oneida County Sheriff's Dept. sergeant and now works as a school resource officer at Marcy Elementary School. He us not only respected, he is loved by the kids and the teachers all spoil him and bring him DD coffee every day and homemade goodies to eat. I also know a retired NY State trooper that is a resource officer somewhere in the Whitesboro system but I don't know at which school. He loves it.

The .45 caliber automatic pistol was designed in 1890 and the Browning model was approved by the US Army in 1911. With some minor modifications it remains in production today. I qualified with it during Army training. It is not easy to use, heavy kick back, inaccurate.

For most people the average .45 cal. pistol is too large and heavy to be practical for concealed carry, especially in the hot, summer months, unless, you wear cargo pants! True, there are now physically smaller versions, however, they are still pretty heavy for daily carry, even if you choose to carry right or left side. If you take a snubby to the range you will be disappointed in your score, unless you have been practicing with it regularly, for many months. It is not a range or competition firearm. It was designed specifically as a personnel defense weapon for close encounters within an average of 40 to 50 feet. Although the short barrel is a compromise between accuracy and concealability, within this range, it is deadly. Carry a Ruger LCR, or, a Smith & Wesson Airweight in a expandable band shoulder holster, and you won't ever know it's there, until you need it.

the military 45 weighs around 2 1/2 pounds. That is a bit unwieldy to be comfortably carried concealed. Stick that in your cargo shorts pocket and it would pull your pants down, haha.
I have been considering the purchase of a handgun since way back when Dave Griffin was still alive and we discussed handguns on here at one point. I went out and bought a Glock G26. I took it back a few days later without ever firing it other than at the gun shop range. I simply decided that I did not need a $500 weapon that would just sit in a drawer or under the console in the truck most of the time. I have no intention of actually carrying on my person at this point in time.
I think if I wanted to carry a handgun on my person, concealed or otherwise, I would just purchase a small 32 semi-auto or something similar. Pretty much pocket gun that could be comfortably and inobtrusive carried tucked in my pants in a small holster or in a jean's pocket. I don't see any need for a large capacity magazine or large caliber for the average and simple self defense. I am sure that if I purchase another pistol I will be able to find something a lot cheaper than $500. The pawn shops and gun shops are full of them, new and used. I have lost interest in target shooting as a hobby or in going to the range on a regular basis. My shooting sport and hunting days are over. My guns are now pretty much for home defense. When I look in my gun cabinet I am often tempted to sell my rifles and just keep my 12 gauge 900xl Ithaca with a slug barrel and rifle sights.
