I am seeing photos of people enjoying outside dining at local restaurants. What I have seen has been very limited in the amount of tables to accommodate customers. We went through the same process here. Tennessee opened first with about a week of sidewalk dining, then inside dining with 50% capacity and tables spaced for social distancing.
Virginia followed but a bit later. They are still at the outside dining phase, but other businesses have been allowed to open with restrictions, and inside dining is probably going to be approved this coming week. I have a friend from Kingsport that operates a food truck business on the Tennessee side of the Va/Tn state line. He say he has been making a killing by parking where employees of local facilities and businesses can grab lunch quickly.
People are ready to begin getting out. There are a lot more people in the stores and on the streets. Social distancing seems to be the order of the day, but folks are not hiding behind their doors as much as we have been for several weeks.
We have been very fortunate. In our county the numbers have been low. We have seen only a total of 61 cases, 2 deaths, and 58 people have recovered. Surrounding counties have had nursing home deaths and Unicoi county saw a spike of 38 cases in one day when the strawberry farms migrant workers were infected. Southwest Virginia and a couple of Tennessee counties have seen bigger numbers but nowhere near the numbers you are still seeing in NY.
We are still being very cautious. I went to the podiatrist yesterday and they were maintaining social distancing in the waiting room and limiting appointments. Even so, only about half the people that came or went were wearing masks. The same was true at Sam's Club the other day when I was there.
When I was at Sam's the other day they were taking temperatures, and passing out masks to those who didn't have one. They require masks to enter the store. Unfortunately I was a large portion of those that entered with masks, took them off as soon as they were in the store and no one was attempting to enforce the mask rule. I don't really blame them. They don't want confrontations between customers and employees.
