Peaceful protest, march planned in Utica in solidarity with George Floyd
A peaceful protest and march in solidarity with George Floyd, the black man who was killed by police in Minneapolis this week, will take place Sunday in Utica, according to a news release.
Organized by Yadana Oo and co-sponsored by Citizen Action and Indivisible Mohawk Valley, the event is open to the public.
Everyone will meet at 2:30 p.m. at Kemble Park and then walk to Oneida Square. Participants are encouraged to bring signs with messages like Black Lives Matter, justice delayed is justice denied, end police brutality, #saytheirnames and #justiceforgeorge.
Guest speakers will be at Oneida Square. Organizers stress the importance of wearing a face mask and gloves as well as social distancing.
