I just came in for the day. My back is telling me I am too old to be hanging on to the "stupid end" of a shovel. I got the treated lumber planting bed all shoveled out into my garden trailer, dragged the bed into the back yard, and shoveled all the dirt back into it. I went to Lowes for 8 more bags of soil and a bag of dehydrated manure. Kathy wants to grow cantaloupes in it and melons love good rich soil mixed with manure. Tomorrow if it isn't raining I have to spread some of the soil where I removed the planting bed and seed it with grass seed. I picked up all the bricks that I had anchoring the landscape cloth in the vegetable garden so tomorrow I can peel up all the old cloth and attempt to start tilling. It remains to be seen if I will be able to do the tilling. I may have to hire someone younger and stronger to show the tiller who is boss, haha. I called a guy that plows and discs gardens. $50 to plow and another $50 when he comes a second time to disc it. Not worth it for the small garden I want to plant. Kinda knocks the crap out of any savings realized by growing our own produce.

I picked up some more strawberries when I went to Lowes. The berry farm has their stand in Bristol open finally. I told Kathy that we have all we are likely to get. They are charging $3.75 a quart. Beautiful big, juicy, and sweet berries but a bit pricey for my blood. Kathy and her cousin used to go to Lenahan's in Whitesboro and pick a 48 quart picnic cooler apiece. They looked like Greta Garbo wannabe's with wide brim hats that kept the sun off the backs of their necks. The farms here don't allow people to pick their own berries. 48 quarts at $3.75 a quart would be $180. I don't like strawberries THAT much, haha. We have frozen $60 worth. If we want more than that I will buy the darned things frozen in a bag at Krogers. I smell biscuits baking so I am reasonably sure that I will be digging a spoon into a big bowl of shortcake this evening. I will probably be a pound heavier in the morning, haha.

Sorry BHU. I just finished a dish of it. Kathy makes drop biscuits with Bisquick and adds some vanilla extract and sugar to the mix. I don't like it on the little shortcake things or on sponge cake. I also don't care for cool whip on shortcake. She makes real whipped cream or else I buy Redi-Whip in a can. I will share of you think it is worthwhile to drive 700 miles for shortcake and coffee, lol.

I guess Kathy is sick of preparing berries for the freezer. I had to take the dog to the groomer and that required driving by the strawberry stand. She said if I bring home any more berries she is going to shoot me.
I managed to get haircut while the dog was at the groomer. I had to drive the 20 miles to Kingsport to a Great Clips but they were open and observing safe practices. There was a gal at a table in front of the shop with a temperature gun to take you temp, and to put you on the waiting list. They only allowed 4 customers in the shop at a time and the chairs being used were at every other station with an empty station in between. When you entered the shop you were directed to a sink in the rear of the shop where both you as well as the beautician that was going to cut your hair washed you hands. The beautician then sprayed the chair with sanitizing solution, wiped it with paper towels, before you sat down. All the equipment was sanitized with Barbacide and a clean towel and clean cape is used for each customer. We waited outside on the sidewalk until called to go inside. I was impressed with the precautions and was comfortable in getting my haircut there. Everyone was masked, customers and employees alike. Not one unmasked individual in the place. When they trimmed around your ears you held the mask to your face with your hand while the took the loop off of your ear, trimmed around your ear and put the loop back over it.
Sadly while waiting to enter the shop I looked up and down the plaza and there were a plethora of smaller stores that have closed and taking down their signs. Lane Bryant, Rackroom Shoes, a nail salon, and Bath and Body Works. That one entire end of a very large shopping center called the Pavilion at Kingsport was almost completely vacant with the exception of a Burke's Outlet, and Target. That entire end of the parking lot was very sparsely occupied while the other end was packed with cars, indicating that the businesses on that end were open and doing okay.
We are living in an entire different world than we were just 3 months ago.

Feeling the age today, also. I mopped the floors. Glad that's done till next May! I bought fresh juicy large strawberries today at Walmart. Only $2.12 a quart picked fresh.. I just eat them plain with scrambled eggs.

I put the last of that particular batch of berries on my cereal this morning.
