I bought two of the little pork tenderloins yesterday for over 8 bucks apiece. This morning's ad has them for $5.99. I called the store and asked if they would care to refund the difference or I would otherwise return them, get my money back and then go directly to the meat department and purchase two more at the sale price.
The assistant manager on duty was a young guy in his twenties. A nice enough kid. He gave me back the difference between yesterday's price and today's sale price, but he then told me, and I quote, that he was "doing me a large favor" by doing so and that he didn't have to do so. I was not impressed with his patronizing tone so I simply told him that I spend over $300 a month there on average and that the store is not the only game in town so he probably should be the grateful one. Kroger's right up the road, another Food City only about 4 or 5 miles away, Walmart and Aldi's in the area also. Where is the favor? A simple paperwork transaction and small refund or do a return and then a new sale. He was just so puffed up with his own importance that I thought I would deflate that ego a bit, haha. The normal store manager is an older gentleman and knows me by name and would not have even hesitated to take care of the issue. I was quite polite and also told the lad that I am grateful for him and the early morning crew that is there for us seniors, but that what he did was nothing more than good customer service.
I stopped at the produce stand and picked up fresh salad ingredients and a nice ripe cantaloupe. It seems that I can't go more than a couple of days without hitting the market for something. I had no plan to shop again until Friday or Monday. Thank goodness they have the early morning "old fart" hour.
