Coronavirus returns in the fall: Fauci says he's 'convinced' while Trump says 'it may not'

I certainly do not intend to believe Trump in this regard.



The nation's expert on infectious diseases says he is "convinced" that the coronavirus will return in the fall while the president says "it may not come back at all."



Those conflicting accounts were heard during President Donald Trump's daily White House event that provides some updates on the pandemic that has killed more than 46,000 people in the United States.



Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, appeared to contradict Trump's notion that the coronavirus may not reappear for a second wave in the fall.



"It may not come back at all," Trump said. Fauci, conversely, said: "We will have coronavirus in the fall. I am convinced of that because of the degree of transmissibility that it has, the global nature. What happens with that will depend on how we're able to contain it when it occurs."



Trump claimed that a comeback of the virus, if it did happen, will not be "anything near what we went through" and are still going through in the curren pandemic.



Medical experts have warned that until there is a vaccine, the country may not return to normal life regarding social distancing. But experts also have said the country would be better prepared for a second wave by developing treatments and stocking up on equipment like ventilators.

Of course you can't believe Trump. Who would? He's been lying to the American people about this from the beginning, like he did yesterday numerous times. Enough is enough with this guy.

As much as I support Trump on most issues, I don't put much stock in his medical opinions. I tend to put my stock in medical people for medical information. As far as the difference of opinions stated in this case, Fauci's opinion is that it WILL return in the fall, and Trump says it may not. Yep, it may or may not return in the fall. Neither of them has any way of knowing for sure.

I think experts are saying it will come back because there's no treatment. As a matter of fact, it hasen't even left & the way things are going it will never leave. There are too many asymptomatic carriers. We're in for the long haul until a treatment is found.

I agree. With some states irresponsibly reopening at a rate too rapid to have any control over the spread, we are in for a serious rebound in many parts of the country. States like Georgia are just going to reopen like the pandemic never happened by the sound of things. That is worrisome because Georgia is only 4 hours away and fairly heavy North/South traffic travels to and from there. Those traveling from Georgia will be stopping in our area for gas and to eat. Staying away from businesses near the Interstate as much as possible will be high on my agenda.

Tennessee's governor is lifting the stay at home order the end of the month and is leaving it up to counties and city governments to organize a plan for reopening their counties and cities. In our area the county government is coordinating with the surrounding counties to formulate a safe schedule for easing back into reopening industry and commercial business such as shops and restaurants. I will just keep doing what I am doing and will watch and see what happens before I really gain any confidence in the safety of going out anywhere or socializing.
