I woke up stiff and sore this morning. I spent the afternoon and early evening working on the bare spots in the lawn left by last summer's prolonged dry weather and drought conditions. Some of the grass came back but there were still large patches of the lawn where the grass has literally died, leaving bare dirt.
I had to rough up the soil with a rake, seed it, cover it with some nice rich bagged topsoil, mulch it with straw, and water it all in. My tired old back is revolting this morning after going to Lowes for 15 bags of topsoil, unloading them, slitting them open and dumping them in a wheelbarrow, spreading 10 pounds of grass seed, covering it with the soil, mulching it with the straw and then standing with a hose, watering it all in for about 1/2 hour until it started to get too dark to work outside.
I have the back yard pretty well taken care of. It is expected to be rainy for the next couple of days so it will be at least Sunday before I can get back out, buy more soil and seed, and get to work on the front and side yards. My normally lush and green lawn was devastated by the drought, and the lawn is just too large to have been watering it with sprinklers or by hand.

Won't be any yard work for me today. It's sunny here now but the temp is only 42*. This morning it was in the low 20's. Our pear tree is starting to bud. We'll see what the hard freeze does to those buds. Nothing on the plum tree. As a matter of fact there ain't much greenery anywhere yet except for lawns.

It has drizzled all morning here and we are supposed to get some pretty heavy thunderstorms and winds later today. Our knockout roses are all budded out and starting to bloom. I fed them good and pruned them earlier on. If I go out at all it will be to the shop to clean up and tinker with something just to kill time. I have some sawdust and wood scraps on the floor from some scroll saw work the other day, and straw all over the side where I keep the tractor and gardening equipment.
So far I haven't been out of the house. The dog doesn't even want to go out to pee in the drizzle. Browsing about on line and sipping my second cup of joe. Seem to have a case of lazy today.

We have a couple rose bushes here but their still dormant unless they're done for, idk. We pulled a couple evergreen shrubs out a couple weeks ago that were overgrown & not worth even pruning. The weather has been so lousy up here that we can't plant anything just yet. The weather channel is predicting 5-8 inches of snow for the north country & may also brush us flatlanders I think Monday. It's unreal. I haven't even bothered to wash my truck in 3 weeks & I still have my winter floor mats in. The good one s I store in my basement for winter.
Tomoroow sunny, temps in the 60's & the new storm door goes in.

My lawn looks like it needs cutting when it is not snow covered. It's hard to get excited about lawn work when it's 40 degrees and raining.

I am glad that I at least got the lawn mowed and got part of the reseeding done the other day. It is rainy and in the 60's here and not supposed to dry out until Sunday. I am hoping that it is not raining at 1:20 when I go for my testing. They have tents set up for the people doing the testing but they still would have to stand in the rain to actually perform the test. I guess if it is raining too hard to do the testing, they will call me and reschedule for a later date.

We decided that spring has finally arrived. Barb got her car washed and before putting it away we cleaned the garage. Put the snow blower away and got out the lawn mower. The floor was filthy, absolutely covered with dirt packed so hard I had to use a scraper on it. Used my bandana to keep the dust out. It's clean now but I need to rest for a day before mowing.
