Coronavirus: 1 death, 16 new cases in Oneida County
One more Oneida County resident has died of COVID-19, bringing the death toll from the virus to seven, according to numbers released Saturday.
An additional 16 cases were identified by the county as of noon on Saturday, with the total number of documented positive cases increasing to 279. Oneida County Executive Anthony Picente Jr. did not host a live briefing on Saturday; he also did not hold briefings last weekend.
There are 31 county residents hospitalized due to the viral disease, including 25 patients at county hospitals and six in hospitals outside the county.
An Oneida County resident who tested positive for COVID-19 visited the Dollar Tree on Mohawk Street and the Walmart on Horatio Street, both in Utica, on April 11 between noon and 2 p.m., according to the county release. The risk is considered low, as the individual was wearing gloves and a mask, but anyone who visited those stores in that time frame should monitor for symptoms until April 23. They do not have to automatically self-quarantine, the release said.
The total number of tests in the county sits at 1,898, with 1,473 negative results, according to the county release. There are still 146 tests awaiting results and 76 of the positive cases have been resolved.
There are 425 residents under mandatory quarantine and 439 residents under precautionary quarantine as of Saturday.
