I am not sure if I am in favor of getting back to business as usual in any big hurry. Nashville was a hot bed of cases just a couple of weeks ago. Cases are still popping up where people are being diagnosed with as having contracted the virus through community exposure. Social distancing doesn't work if EVERYONE doesn't comply. The number of cars in parking lots of many businesses tells me that many people aren't paying much attention to the stay at home executive order. The other day when I went to the bank the parking lot at Lowes would have led one to believe it was Black Friday. When Kathy and I went for our ride on Saturday the parking lots at Walmart, Food City, and the dollar store were packed with cars. We even passed a playground that was loaded with kids playing and parents sitting shoulder to shoulder on benches watching them.
I am sure that the bowling alley will be chomping at the bit to get back to business. There are three more weeks of bowling left on my Tuesday night league. I have already paid for the three weeks but I WILL NOT be bowling. They can either get a sub for me or "put me in blind" which means that they will use my average minus ten pins per game. I will play it by ear and see how it it plays out, but I am in no hurry to go from all the strict guidelines for social distancing, masking, sanitizing, right back to crowded stores, people up your butt when standing in line, and people just being careless and complacent. This pandemic has turned me into a germaphobe of some sort.
Our dog groomer called today. We are having the dog groomed tomorrow. She is wiping the door handle and doorbell button, the dog cage handles and anything else that a customer might touch. She is only letting one dog in at a time, and you have to enter, put you dog in a kennel and leave. When you go back to pick up the dog, she will put your next appointment on a card on a table, where you will leave your money or check. She is wearing gloves and a mask to do the dogs and changes the gloves with every dog. I also have to take our dog to the vet's office for her annual rabies shot. They want a person to call when they are at the parking lot. They will come out, get the dog, do whatever they need to do, and bring the dog back to you in the parking lot, along with a scanner to take your payment by credit card or debit.
People may look at me strange, but I have no immediate plans to abandon the mask or to shop in the mid day crowds. I hope that local stores don't cancel the early morning senior citizen shopping hour. I have gotten use to shopping when they open with a sparse group of seniors.
