If I still worked for the air force I might have had a chance to check that place out. We used to stay in Waldorf Md when we worked at Andrews AFB because it was a high cost per diem area and we got $120 a day for meals and lodging If there was not any available officer's quarters available they would give us a non-availability voucher to get a contract hotel at the same price as on base quarters. It was about a half hour from the base, and about that far from LaPlata. We used to go to a restaurant in LaPlata. The shrine looks to be only a few miles from LaPlata.
When I drove buses I visited many shrines, both in the US and in Canada. That was not one of them. I am not a Catholic but I always enjoyed those trips. The only shrine I didn't like to visit was St Anne de Beaupre, North of Quebec City. They would reserve rooms for us in a retreat house, in a room just big enough for a bed and small table with a chair. NO TV or anything else to do at night but read a book or take a walk. I eagerly anticipated the next night's lodging at the luxurious 5 star Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City and some five star dining.

Did the seniors on those trips grab all the sweet and low packages from eateries!

Yep, The little dishes on the tables holding Sweet and Low would all be bare when we left a restaurant, and one lady even brought a Dutch oven full of roasted sweet and hot peppers. She actually carried a pepper sandwich into an Italian restaurant, ordered a half carafe of Lambrusco and broke out her foil wrapped sandwich. The meal was paid for with the price of the ticket so she could have had a salad, pasta, a beverage and dessert for free. That same night she called my room at around midnight and asked me if I could take the bus to a bakery we had passed and get a loaf of Italian bread. She told me if I went she would fix me a nice pepper "sangwich" when I got back. Thank goodness I had dropped the bus at a bus garage to be washed and to have the john dumped and had taken a cab back to the hotel so I had an excuse for not going, haha.
I have had some other weird requests when on charters. One guy on a hockey trip to Montreal was going to give me $50 if I took him and a friend to a strip club. I told him to hail a cab. I had 4 guys one night walk about three miles from the hotel to a bar where they got shitfaced drunk and called my room asking me to come and get them. I spoke to the bartender and told him to put their drunk asses in a cab. People have asked me to make beer runs while they were at ball games. I guess that when they rented the bus they thought that I was at their beckoned call. Not always so.
