Syracuse area Wegmans to close at midnight for restocking, cleaning amid coronavirus panic shopping Updated 2:08 PM; Today 1:44 PM In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, Syracuse area Wegmans will be closing tonight at midnight and will be reopening at 6 a.m. This is a temporary change to store hours. This includes Cicero, Dewitt, Fairmount, Great Northern, James Street, John Glenn, Onondaga Blvd, and Taft Road stores. A Wegmans spokesperson said they will be temporarily closing local stores for two reasons. They will be enhancing their deep cleaning and sanitation practices throughout the store to keep everyone safe and they will be working hard to restock items overnight to have available for customers in the morning. “We understand the vital role our stores play in the communities we serve and will do everything we can to continue our operations with minimal or no interruption. We recognize the heightened concern and are doing everything we can to protect our customers and employees,” Danny, Colleen, and Nicole Wegmans said in a press release. Customers stocking up out of panic and stripping shelves bare had already caused limits to be put on how much toilet paper, hand sanitizer, and water customers could buy in one order. www.syracuse.com/coronavirus/2020/03/syracuse-area-wegmans-to-close-at-midnight-for-restocking-cleaning-amid-coronavirus-panic-shopping.html?ath=b34fc7146ad577d0cec7edf24a5b4609&utm_source=Newsletter&utm_medium=Newsletter%20-%20Coronavirus&utm_campaign=Newsletter%20-%20Coronavirus#cmpid=nsltr_stryheadlineShelves at North Utica Walmart are becoming low and or empty. How will employees even keep up. Panic buying going on all over but I found a case of Folgers Classic coffee deep in one shelf and grabbed three cans. lol

They did the same at Walmart and Price Chopper. Also on bleach and hand wipes and some other cleaners.
I noticed Vitamin C is sold out at Walmart and Price Chopper. I have to check New Hartford store today I also need Vit. D
I have plenty of garlic so I don't need to buy that.

Do you use the garlic that is chopped and packed in water or oil PB? I buy the small jar of chopped garlic packed in water, and also always have a couple of bulbs of fresh garlic in the crisper drawer in the fridge sealed in an air tight container so it doesn't smell up the fridge or taint the milk. The chopped garlic is very handy to simply toss a teaspoon or so into a some oil in a pan to get the party started when cooking up a quick dish of some sort, but the clove garlic, crushed or chopped fresh can't be beat, and we still sliver garlic and stick it into slots in a roast when we cook one.
I haven't noticed if vitamins of any sort are in short supply. Kathy takes supplemental vitamin C because her lab work showed that her potassium was high so she was told to cut back on citrus and other high potassium fruits and juices. Me? I am just the opposite. I was just prescribed potassium pills because mine was low. The damned pills are as big as a football. They look more like a rectal suppository than and oral pill, haha. We are pretty well set with food and necessities for now, and will be staying close to home other than necessary trips to doctor's appointments and to do some incidental shopping. Not in a panic, but will be cautious and will observe the common sense cautions such as staying away from crowded venues, and maintaining space from others when possible.
I am probably silly looking with my gloves when I push the cart in a store, but I have them around anyway so why take a chance. I have become much more germaphobic in that when we left the restaurant last night we both used hand sanitizer on our hands after touching door handles and push bars on the restaurant doors. I went through the same routine when we stopped at Aldi's except that I didn't have gloves with me. Hand sanitizer has become my constant companion and both Kathy and I carry the little bottles. One in the truck, one in my pocket most times, and Kathy has one in her purse.

I never used the chopped jarred garlic and I was going to ask on here if it tastes good.
I take potassium cause one of my blood pressure meds lowers my potassium level. Those pills are huge. I take Vit C as a supplement only 250mg per day.
When I was talking about having enough garlic I meant to mention the garlic pills. I started taking one pill a day after a black lady here told me she uses them and hasn't had a cold in years. They are a mild form of an antibiotic. Some people here if they get ill take a garlic clove or two and eat it raw. I tried once---terrible.
I got all I needed but not a can of soup to be found at Walmart New Hartford. I also wear cloves when shopping now this is going around and am extra careful on the Bus. I noticed others are too. Only 3 people on New York Mills Bus leaving Utica for New Hartford Walmart. Was nice. One sat all the way in back and I sat in middle and someone else up front. So we were all 4 to 6 feet apart.

I buy the small jars of chopped garlic. It comes in a small short jar about 4 inches in diameter and an inch or so tall. It is quite good in dishes that are cooked in oil if you let it cook for a minute before you add the other ingredients. Of course fresh garlic that you chop yourself is better and more flavorful. Jarred garlic is for when we are too lazy to peel and chop the cloves. I sometimes use a garlic press for the fresh garlic but it is more of a pain in the ass to clean the press than it is to mince it by hand with a knife or use the jarred garlic.
We used to buy braids of garlic on South James St in Rome when we came up and we would split them with a friend that was a serious garlic user. He passed away a few years ago and the last braid we bought dried up and began to shrivel by the time we had used about 1/2 of it. When I buy fresh garlic now I simply try to buy the domestically grown garlic bulbs with the roots still intact. I guess the garlic bulbs with the roots cut off are supposedly imported from China.

I don't get it. The end is near but people are buying enough paper towels & toilet paper to last them 10 years. Why bother? Stop hoarding & save the trees for the wildlife for when we're all gone. Lol!

I used to braid garlic for my Italian grandmother since my grandfather had a huge garden and grew just about everything. I miss that, darn it. I used to help him in the summer. I never saw such an organized garden in all my life. To give you an idea as to the size they bought a lot on Miller Street near the railroad track that was for sale by the City way back in 1922 I think. He was gardening on that up to the 1960's.
