BHU, We have hand sanitizer coming in every day up at North Utica Walmart, but it doesn't stay long and is often gone as fast as it is being put on the shelf. I checked online this morning & the New Hartford store supposedly had it. I went up there about 10, none to be found, unless I'm looking in the wrong aisle. I got home checked again & the website said it was in stock. Idk.

I do not think the website is keeping up with demand. They are all out of everything. So try not to panic.

As a matter of fact the sanitizer is the only item I haven't been able to find. And I usually don't use the stuff anyway, I wash my hands with liquid hand soap. I just want to carry a small bottle with me to use after shopping, etc. And I don't frequent WalMart that often. I despise their business practices & how they treat employees.

My son is reporting the same thing as a supplier to the N Utica Walmart. They are also running out of things like canned tomato products. He says that food products they buy from Europe are being embargoed including not just tomato products from Italy but things like frozen fish from Norway and Iceland.

It's a little crazy the way things come into the store BHU. The HBA & OTC products come in on our GM truck and show up as "there" as soon as someone finalizes it, probably around 2-2:30.......as soon as they open the door of the truck. It doesn't even start to get unloaded until around 3PM ish. If is coming in as "box freight" it may hit the floor around 3 or 4PM. If it is coming in in smaller packages, commonly known as "one touch", it won't be on the floor until around 6-7PM. And that is not when it will get on the shelf, God only knows that! One of my partners was working there yesterday and folks were pawing through the totes it's brought out in before he could even get to them himself! Crazy days!! We ran through two pallets of toilet tissue inside of 30 minutes. We ran out of bottled water in an hour after it started hitting the floor......pallet after pallet. We ran out of flour, salt, Hellmans mayo and folks blew through most of the peanut butter in my aisle by my lunch time. Folgers coffee wasn't far behind. Chicken was flying out of the place quick and rice has been hard to come by since last week, it's gone almost as soon as it comes out. I think it has been blown way out of proportion. Right now I am nervous about needing a loaf of bread or quart of milk. Not for any other reason than it may not be there because the nutjobs are hoarding it. The only thing I will say about the "crisis" is that fear mongering is damn good for business.

We always keep our freezer adequately stocked, and enough toilet paper for a couple of months. Finally someone has put forth a common sense estimate of how much toilet paper a person actually needs and uses. lite987.com/how-much-toilet-paper-do-we-actually-use-in-a-month/I am going to shop today for a few more heart smart protein choices. much of the protein items in our freezer are steaks and red meat which I will be eating in VERY limited quantities. We need to stock up on poultry and fish as well as a few proteins like lentils and beans. Nothing drastic, but a few more choices to use in some low fat, low sodium, recipes. If anyone has good lentil recipes, post them for me under the food section. Thanks. If there are any paper towels available I will pick up ONE package of eight rolls, only because who knows how long the stocks will be low in the stores. The panic hoarding has gotten ridiculous. A friend posted a photo he took as he left Sam's Club yesterday. People are buying entire cart loads of TP and paper towels. He said a lady loading her car next to his had 5 packages of 15 rolls of towels, and an equal amount of toilet paper. How ridiculous. People are worried about the availability of toilet paper going forward, due to misinformation circulating about MOST of our toilet paper coming from China. MOST of our TP and paper towels come from domestic sources and American based paper companies, and if not manufactured within OUR borders, a huge amount of paper is imported from Canada. As a truck driver, I have hauled every variety of paper known to man, from TP to newsprint, and copying machine paper from mills in the Northern part of the Midwest and Ontario,to Northern NY State. Walmart and others get trailer load after trailer load of TP and paper towels every day from a mill in Plattsburg. I don't know as I have ever seen or noted paper products imported from China, other than packaging that Chinese goods may come in. If I am not mistaken, we EXPORT paper to China, rather than importing it FROM China.

We don't buy a lot of paper towels. They're a waste of money, can't be recycled & too damn expensive. If we run out, the hell with 'em. We'll wipe up a spill with a damn dish cloth or towel. I too have seen shoppers with numerous rolls of the things. Have at it.
