The local authorities are fairly positive that it is the remains of little Evelyn that they found on Friday night at a family property after receiving a tip that led them to the great grandfather's property. The body was sent for an autopsy to positively determine the identity and cause of death.
I attended a prayer vigil last night at the sheriff's office parking lot. There was about 100 people there. I didn't stay for long as the wind came up and it got cold. ( A little over a year ago we stood in the exact same place for at a vigil for a well known and loved sheriff's department sergeant that was shot and killed in the line of duty) There were other vigils being held all around the area last night.
It seemed strange that none of the family was present, but not surprising considering the fact that many players in the family are possible suspects or at least suspected to be guilty of covering up the crime. The mother is in jail for lying to the TBI, the sheriff' department investigators and the FBI. The grandmother and her boyfriend had fled to North Carolina, probably because they both had miscellaneous open warrants, and were arrested there in a stolen BMW. The mother's father and grandfather were arrested in 2012 for attempted murder and assault after beating a man almost to death with a club in the driveway of the very home where the baby's body was found, and did time. I am sure that they would have been greeted with as much disdain, and negative feelings as sympathy. The entire unfolding story is just heart breaking and sad
It is the opinion of many that the poor little angel might be better off in the arms of the Lord rather than being raised in such a dysfunctional and unstable family. Myself? I pray that justice will be served on whoever is involved in the death and cover up, and that the little munchkin may rest in peace. I am stricken with a deep sadness every time I see the photo of that innocent little face and those beautiful blue eyes. Whoever killed that baby or participated in the cover up should burn in hell. I went to bed last night thinking about that little one, and woke this morning with her on my mind. At least in death she no longer suffers, and we know that she is not being mistreated or abused somewhere. However sad, there is finally closure for an entire community that has been worrying and praying for Evelyn since the case broke in February.
