We have wanted to take a ride to look at a campsite along the Holston River in Rogersville Tn. We were going to go the other day and didn't make it. Today is in the mid 50's so we will take a ride down there, look at the campsite, and then since it is my birthday we will go to my favorite Chinese Buffet in Johnson City. It is the best, the cleanest, and has the best food of any Chinese place around here. They have butterflied shrimp, fried calamari, and crab legs on the buffet for $11.99. I like crab legs but don't have the patience to pick it from the shell so I normally only eat a couple of legs. I think Tomorrow Kathy has plans with friends for a trip to Longhorn that was cancelled the other night because something came up for the friends that we planned on going with. Yep, I made it for one more trip around the sun. 73 laps I have made so far and hope to make a few more.

We ended up just going out to eat. It started raining and was too wet to be able to get out of the truck and look around the campground so we postponed that part of the trip. Enjoyed the buffet and just came back home to watch Wheel and Jeopardy. Thanks for the Happy Birthday.

Well we finally had a nice sunny day in the mid 50's so we made the 50 mile trek to that Windy River Campground I mentioned before. Thank God we didn't wait until camping season and simply hook up and go there. You turn off of Route 11 onto a pretty narrow two lane road for about 5 miles. Then you turn onto a single lane, very narrow road that winds along a creek with absolutely no place to turn around for the 3 miles to the campground. There is a creek on one side, and a hill on the other, and we literally forded the creek twice through water almost up to the step bars on the truck. I had to wonder what the hell would happen there was a truck and camper coming out, and a truck and camper going in and they met half way between the campground and the highway. SOMEBODY would have to back a trailer up on that skinny cow path for a 1/2 mile or so. Kathy was a wreck when we had to drive through the creek twice. The campground was nice and the sites were on the riverfront. It looked like great fishing and there is a boat launch, but even with a low price per night and full hook-ups, there was only one trailer there that was on an annual site, and one stored away from the river where you first pull in. It is a new campground but I don't hold much hope for them making it with the road that a person has to traverse to get there. Someone pulling a 35 or 40 foot fifth wheel would never make it around some of the twists and turns, and if it rained and the creek swelled any you could be trapped for days waiting for the water level to drop enough to safely drive through the creek. It was a nice day for the ride. We checked out a restaurant outside of Rogersville that was an old mill. Amis MIll Restaurant. It overlooks a hand laid field stone dam that is purported to be the oldest dam in Tennessee. I need to do more reading to find out if that is in fact true. Good food, reasonably priced. amismill.com/

www.tnvacation.com/local/rogersville-thomas-amis-historic-siteFurther reading about the Amis historic site DOES state that the mill dam IS the oldest stone dam in Tennessee. There are cabins to rent and a picnic area with tables that stretches for 100 yards or so above the dam in a shaded area along the stream. It looks like a great place for a family outing. I need to find out if it is good fishing in that stream. It would be a nice place for Kathy to lounge in the shade in a camp chair while I cook something on the grill and fish.
