cnycentral.com/news/local/lawmakers-plan-online-survey-to-find-out-why-people-are-leaving-nyIt should not need to be any huge and lengthy survey. Five possible reasons would probably suffice in gathering the reasons behind the major portion of the exodus. Possibility #1: Downstate politics #2: Andrew Cuomo's actions and agenda as governor #3: High taxation #4: Hard winters #5: Overall costs of doing business or living in NY I would hazard a guess that number 5 would most likely prove to be the most chosen reason.

I cannot understand why so many eateries are opening downtown. Another one this week. Located on Bleecker St near Genesee St next to the New York Connection. I have been watching it all last week and this week. Small place maybe 6 tables. He sells hamburgers. Plain and with cheese. Also a chicken patty. The french fries. He has a small assortment of soda and coffee. Hope he gets more people cause it has been very slow in there. I have to go in because if I made out the price of a hamburger looking through the window it was near $7.00.

A $7 burger is not unusual today. If it is hand patted and topped with all the accoutrements it is in line with what places like Appleby's or Denny's might charge when served with a small side of fries.
I seldom order a burger when out other than the occasional BK senior citizen whopper special on Wednesdays. I actually like making my own burgers at home with 85% lean angus beef. I love a large patty on a brioche bun, cooked in the air fryer or on a grill pan. Top it with a thin slice of sweet onion, a few pickle chips, salt and pepper, and either ketchup or mayo. Lettuce and tomato makes a burger too messy to eat.
Last night after bowling we made our usual trip to Perkins. My friend Matt ordered a monster sized burger with bacon, cheese, onion rings, lettuce and tomato. My God, he was barely able to get his mouth around it to take a bite, and when he did the tomato was falling out and mayo was dribbling all over. It was $10 and change. The calorie count must have been outrageous, and the fat content with all that cheese, bacon, meat, and mayonnaise bordered on being a heart stopping cholesterol bomb. ALL of their specialty burgers are over $10. Their bare bones cheese burger is $8. They have one that includes an over easy egg on it. How nice. Along with the mayo and ketchup dripping off your elbow, you can also have egg yolk running down your forearm.

No, $7 for a burger is about right. Not long ago we ordered from Five Guys & the total was $28 for two cheeseburgers & two fries. No drinks because I rarely order soda from fast food joints because studies have proven that ice machines are a health hazard.

All of the above. People are getting fed up with Oneida County as the cost of living here keeps rising. Utility rates, fuel prices, water rates & property taxes in O.C. & Utica are going to rise once the bills for this new hospital start rolling in.

Pack your bags and come on down BHU. You can still go back and visit and enjoy the beauty of NY without having to pay for the insane goings on in NY State. Make no mistake about it. Kathy and I both miss the good things about NY State, but have no desire to return to the financial aspects of living there. We enjoy coming up in summer when we enjoy all the good stuff and don't have to tolerate snow or pay property taxes. We just bitch about gas prices.

So to save money, people stop going to the movies, concerts, the theater, finer restaurant dining, and decide to stay home and watch TV. That's where Spectrum gets you. They're a monopoly. The first year isn't quite so bad, but once the introductory offer is over with, you pay through the nose and your bill keeps going up and up. Sort of makes you want to sell your house and move to anywhere that isn't in Oneida County or anywhere else in New York State.
And I definitely agree that Cuomo and his henchmen are probably the biggest drawbacks to living in NYS.

I could buy Barb a box set of the complete Perry Mason for $107. Should I do that for Valentine's or her birthday?

A box set of almost anything is preferable to most of what is on TV now. We watch a lot of Netflix rather than the cable channels and all their repetitive showing the same thing over and over again. Our cable is reasonably priced since we dumped Spectrum for our local utility's cable and internet service, but there are things about their service that we are not happy with either.
I would not mind having a Perry Mason boxed set myself. That would be a lot of hours of pure enjoyment, commercial free.

The basic starter price is I think around $27. to 34 dollars a month. I know it is a few dollars below what we pay here for all the channels which is $36.00 Our's is a group plan. Does your building have the group plan if not tell them they may not know.
