KOBE BRYANT KILLED IN CALIFORNIA HELICOPTER CRASH


CALABASAS, CA - Retired Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant has been killed in a helicopter crash in California.



According to TMZ, the retired basketball star was traveling with at least three other people in his private helicopter when it crashed and a fire broke out. Five people are confirmed dead.



Bryant played for the Lakers for 20 years and retired in 2016.



The Los Angeles County Sheriff's page confirms five people are confirmed deceased, no survivors in Calabasas helicopter crash. LASD and Malibu deputies remain with LA County Fire personnel.



The investigation ongoing.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kobe Bryant, the 18-time NBA All-Star who won five championships and became one of the greatest basketball players of his generation during a 20-year career spent entirely with the Los Angeles Lakers, died in a helicopter crash Sunday. He was 41.



Bryant died in a helicopter crash near Calabasas, California, a source told The Associated Press. It was unclear if family members were on the helicopter.



Bryant retired in 2016 as the third-leading scorer in NBA history, finishing two decades with the Lakers as a prolific scorer with a sublime all-around game and a relentless competitive ethic. He held that spot in the league scoring ranks until Saturday night, when the Lakers’ LeBron James passed him for third place during a game in Philadelphia, Bryant’s hometown.



“Continuing to move the game forward (at)KingJames,” Bryant wrote in his last tweet. “Much respect my brother.”



Bryant had one of the greatest careers in recent NBA history and became one of the game’s most popular players as the face of the 16-time NBA champion Lakers franchise. He was the league MVP in 2008 and a two-time NBA scoring champion, and he earned 12 selections to the NBA’s All-Defensive teams.



He teamed with Shaquille O’Neal in a combustible partnership to lead the Lakers to NBA titles in 2000, 2001 and 2002. He later teamed with Pau Gasol to win two more titles in 2009 and 2010.

It is very sad that they decided to fly in the fog when it was so foggy that the LA police had grounded their helicopter fleet. It is tragic that there were so many people on board and that so many families are tragically affected by the loss of loved ones.

I am not a huge fan of watching sports on TV other than the occasional college football game or MLB baseball game. I am sure that Lakers fans are absolutely devastated by the loss of Kobe. I know Kobe from seeing him on the sports news on tv, but I don't think I have ever watched a pro basketball game. It is like tennis. You watch the players run up the court, shoot at the basket, and then the other team takes the ball and runs back down the court to the other end. I would get a stiff neck if I were in the stands.

The one thing that does catch my attention is the ability of the players to shoot the 3 point shots from way out and for it to snap through the net without even touching the rim. They ARE true athletes. It just doesn't peak my interest.

I don't know why an experienced pilot would fly a helicopter through hilly terrain in the fog. The death toll now is at nine. A terrible tragedy. I was a big basketball fan in my younger days, even played & was quite good at it. Back in the 60's & 70's was the golden age. Guys like John Havileck, Larry Bird, Bill Russell, Elgin Baylor etc. actually played the game, as opposed to now where dunking the ball is what it's all about. And those guys were class acts, as opposed to the clowns playing now. Same deal with the NFL.

We were talking again last night while out with friends, and we all pretty much agreed that we have seen enough Kobe Bryant to last a lifetime. The entire time we were bowling last night, the tv's over the lanes were tuned to some sort of documentary covering his basketball career. I think they showed every basket that he ever threw since high school.

Yes it was a great tragedy, but enough is enough. It is my contention that those lost in the fighting in the middle east certainly deserve eulogizing more than a guy that can toss a basketball through a metal ring from 30 or 40 feet away, and I agree that there were many other greats in the game that I enjoyed watching more than the current cast of characters that hang from the rim like orangutans searching for a meal.

I was waiting for the wife to say something but so far others say she is distressed. She will inherit much money, yes. Good for her she is young and I sure will be able to party with the hip crowd after a few years of mourning. 

I guess purple is their big color. The Aud or whatever they are calling it now was lit up in the famous color. Yippy. Life goes on..............

Well, after all she lost her husband AND her daughter. No amount of money can make up for losing a loved one suddenly like that.
