A few days ago i noticed a small hairline crack in the screen of my Amazon Fire tablet about 1/4 inch long & maybe 2 inches down from the upper corner. I don't know how it happened because I don't recall dropping it. Well, today i did when removing the charger cord the tablet flipped over on to of course, the front. Now the crack is about 3 inches long & extends from the side of the tablet to the top of it. The tablet works fine, I'm using it now. Just wondering if I'm going to have to replace it. Maybe the crack will stop because of It's location? These tablets cost more to repair then to replace.

Some will work for a long time with a cracked screen. Others seem to go quickly. It's a crap shoot.
I have had good luck with Samsung and Kindle tablets. Those who afford I-pads seem happy with them. In my experience the no-name tablets are not worth the money.

My youngest son is opening a business in Oneida on the first of February to trouble shoot and repair electronic devices including phones, tablets, Ipods, etc. He is good at what he does and replaces screens on devices often already. If you are happy with your tablet, it probably is at least worth getting and estimate on how much it would cost to replace just the screen. What kind of tablet is it? Maybe I can ask him what he would charge. He has dabbled in repairs in a home shop since going to work as manager at an AT&T store in Cicero. If anyone needs cell phones, Ipads or tablets, he repairs and resells tablets and high end cell phones that people trade on new devices. The man who owns the AT&T store that he manages is going into partners with him to open the shop. Tell me what type of tablet you have and I will gladly ask him for a price. Why spend the money for a new tablet if you can repair the one you have for a reasonable price? He has all the specialized soldering equipment and trouble shooting equipment to allow him to repair boards and such.

Sounds like a good business. My grandkids break screens often.

I've have it for 2 years & its worked flawlessly. I think I'll wait & see what happens with it & if it grenades I'll just replace it. But thanks.

In my experience the no-name tablets are not worth the money. You're right about the no name tablets. I had one that lasted about a year, bought from Wally World. I also had an Insignia from Best Buy which wouldn't take a charge anymore. I've had this Amazon Fire for 2 years & its worked great. Ipads are nice but I can't see spending that kind of money on a tablet.

I had an android based tablet from Walmart that I had picked up on one of our trips to Wake Forest Hospital for one of Kathy's mulitiple back surgeries. I got sick of lugging my heavy laptop around the hospital. It was $100 at the time. it may have been the exception to the rule. I gave it to my friend John when I got the Ipad. He used it for everything until he died and his sister now uses it. If your tablet dies, let me know and I will ask my son what he wants for a refurbished Ipad. You don't have to get the latest and greatest one. I have the Ipad air and it serves me well for email, the forum, camera, and Netflix. I also like it because I can facetime with my grand daughters on their tablets.

Clipper, if you PM me your son's new business contact info I'll pass it along to anyone in my area who needs a repair or would like to purchase a 2nd hand or refurb. Oneida isn't very far from Utica and one more semi-local promoter can't help but to increase traffic for him. I wish him the best.
I wonder... is he able to replace internal batteries that consumers are not supposed to be able to replace?

I imagine that he can replace a battery Kit. His business is called "iFix" He has a facebook page, but has not yet hooked up a store phone. In the mean time he is still doing business from his shop at home. His cell # is (315) 335-8779. He will be selling new and used devices, and will offer repair services for phones, tablets, and consumer electronics. He will be doing screen repair, charging point repair, water damage repair, board repairs, back glass replacement, phone lock and unlock, as well as selling prepaid service on a selection of about 5 or so prepaid networks. He is good at what he does and loves doing it. I was impressed with the intricate and precision equipment that he has accumulated of the last year or so. I will update his information when the shop opens and he has a landline business phone. In the mean time, if anyone needs any of his services, call his cell and tell him that his dad sent you his way.
The shop is right on Route 5, at 237 Genesee Street.

Clipper, what is your son's first name, and what's his Facebook page (there are several 'iFix' listings)? I'd like to drive to Oneida and meet him.

Sorry but I can't find him on Facebook. All I see are a pipefitter and a biker.

My wife and I have 10" Samsung tablets I bought about 5 or 6 years ago. They are both still used on a daily basis. The cases are falling apart and the battery life is fading but otherwise they work great. My grandsons tend to drop their stuff. If I buy electronics for them I always get the add-on insurance. Since I have 5 grandkids who visit frequently, I always have extra tablets.

Time for a new tablet. I noticed this a.m. that the crack has travelled from the corner halfway accross the screen. Amazon is running a special on their Fire 8" tablet for $49.99 down from $79., so I went ahead & ordered it. I'm a prime member so shipping is free & it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow.

Sounds like a good deal. I have one of those about 2 years old. So far the kids haven't broken it.
