TV news van crashes into stopped Whitesboro school bus; driver ticketed Updated Jan 17, 2020;Posted Jan 17, 2020 DEERFIELD, N.Y. -- A TV news van crashed into the back of a Whitesboro school bus that had stopped to let off a student Thursday afternoon, troopers said. The accident happened around 2:40 p.m. on Smith Hill Road in Deerfield. At the time, roads were slippery across Central New York. Five students were on the bus when a Whitesboro Central School District bus driver stopped on Smith Field Road, said Trooper Jack Keller, New York State Police spokesman. The bus’ stop sign was displayed as the driver let a student off, he said. That’s when a WKTV news van rear-ended the school bus, Keller said. Chelsea J. Sherrod, 25, was driving the 2019 Ford Escape owned by WKTV, Keller said. She failed to stop, he said, and her car struck the bus. No injuries were reported. The news vehicle was “heavily” damaged, WKTV reported. Sherrod was ticketed for failure to stop for a school bus and following to closely. www.syracuse.com/crime/2020/01/tv-news-van-crashes-into-stopped-whitesboro-school-bus-driver-ticketed.htmlHuge storm on the way.

It doesn't surprise me that they slid on Smith Hill. The hills don't get much steeper anywhere around the area. The hills climbing out of the valley on the North side tend to be steep. Newport Road, Deerfield Hill, Grace Road, and Glass Factory Rd. All pretty steep, and if it was slippery she should certainly have allowed extra following distance.
I am surprised that they didn't come on the air at WKTV and say that there was an accident on Smith Hill and that they had a news team on-scene and details would follow, haha.
