Jersey Mike's is the top choice for a well filled quality submarine sandwich here in our area. They DO make a great sandwich that is worth the money paid. Their meats and rolls are top quality and always fresh. They do well here. We don't have as many mom and pop pizza joints, Italian restaurants, or other outlets that feature subs or make a quality product. At Jersey Mike's you start on one end of a line, tell them what sandwich you want them to make, and what kind of roll you want, much like Subway, but that is where any comparison ends. You watch the sandwich maker at Mike's take each meat from the deli case, slice fresh, and place it on the roll, Then comes the choice of toppings you want, and finally the sandwich is cut in half and placed in the bag. The process goes much like Subway but the quality of the ingredients far surpasses that of Subway and the quantity of meat and fillings is larger and better.
I first bought Jersey Mike's sandwiches in the 70's at their original store in Point Pleasant NJ while there with deep sea charter fishing groups from Spilka's bar in Utica. I was overjoyed when they came to town here in Bristol. I would have never imagined that they would become so large and popular all over the East.
One will have to wait and see how well they are received in the Utica area. You are all fortunate to have so many mom and pop pizza parlors and sandwich shops that make great sandwiches. My favorite in your area was always Venice Pizzeria in Yorkville. I would suggest that you try Jersey Mike's, and see for yourself. I don't think you will be disappointed. I hope they do well.
