Clipper - My thinking has always been "It is much easier to get warm than it is to get cool". I found this out when I spent 8 days in August being in Atlanta, Georgia during a heat wave!
If we had to go to the store or shopping, it had to be done BEFORE 10 AM because of the intensity of the heat. Then, once it became 10 AM, we made sure we were inside with the AC blasting all day and night. You're right; during the summer months, people down South hibernate inside their homes like the "damn Yankees" do in the Winter months.
Personally, I would rather pay someone to shovel/snowblow my snow that hibernate all summer - LOL! No matter how much snow we get or how cold it gets, we can still manage to get to our cars and go shopping, visiting, etc. to get out of the house.

Unless you're way up north in the Yukon. Then you need diesel engines that have to idle all night long or else the entire engine freezes. But my philosophy is that you can always add more layers to stay warm, but you can only take so many off to stay cool.

uh-oh! Quick spit three times and jump around counter-clockwise with our eyes closed for three revolutions. That should ward off the curse.
LOL.
Who'd a thunk.

That looks like the BIG Craftsman snowblower I own. This thing is so powerful and big, even has an electric start and is self propeller - IT IS SO COMPLICATED I DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE IT!!!!!!
Instead, my neighbor uses it for me and he clears out all the snow from my driveway for me!

Hahaha. I am trying to get up off the floor and quit laughing. I envisioned Thelma, jumping around her kitchen counter clockwise and spitting. Now THERE is a humorous vision, right Thelma?? Actually it is not that bad here in the summer. I know what Thelma is talking about though with Atlanta. I was at my Aunt and Uncles house once in summer, and she is right, they stayed in all day. Actually here, it gets hot enough sometimes between 2 and 5 in the afternoon to make it unbearable outside, but most of the time, I am to be found out in the garden or working around the yard in a pair of shorts and a sleeveless t-shirt. After being here a while, 90 is like 75 up there. You climatize yourself to the temps after a while. I freeze when it gets down to 40 or so now. "No matter how much snow we get, we manage to get to our cars and get out of the house etc" I can picture it now, Thelma, shivering and bitching while you slide down out of the subdivision, and then writing a thread and a post because the city hasn't plowed Herkimer Rd yet, and you are spinning and sliding your way to Proctor High to drop off your grandaughter. haha. Are we having fun yet? Gotta love the winter driving in CNY. Can't resist picking on ya Thelma. You CAN take off enough clothes to deal with the heat down here. Just think, ya could weed your flower beds in your bikini, or mow the lawn in a tube top and short shorts. Haha. I live far enough from the ocean that when I have laid out on the chaise lounge, nobody has tried to harpoon me yet. LOL. They did send the animal control folks by once because they thought a cow had died and was laying on my side yard bloating. hahahaha. I scared the hell out of the animal control officer when he kicked me to see if I was dead, and I jumped up and asked him what he kicked me for. ;D

Thanks for making me laugh, Clipper. Now I can turn this computer off as I have to get dressed, get in my car and go sliding down Herkimer Road to go shopping. If I'm lucky, even though it is Saturday, maybe the plows have been out and plowed it.
