wcyb.com/weather/weather-blog/gallery/wet-and-windy-halloween-severe-storms-possible#photo-3Not nice out there today. A strong front is moving through with a line of some severe thunderstorms embedded, high winds in places exceeding 60 mph, and a tornado watch in effect until 7 pm. It is going to be miserable all day and most of tonight and is going to get really cold with the first freeze of the year forecast for tonight. It was 70 earlier and has dropped to 52 already and is expected to drop to 30 degrees before midnight. I might have to trade the flannel shirt for the winter coat and stocking cap again. I have another heavy blanket of leaves to take care of the first dry day we get. How severe have the storms been up there in CNY today? They show this storm system stretching all the way from the gulf into your area and New England.

Temp is 65* right now & light rain. We're supposed to get a couple inches of rain & high winds starting later today & tonight. Tomorrow temps in the 40's. I wanted to get out of the house earlier & enjoy the warm weather so i went out & raked some leaves, tomorrow they'll be blown all over again. Oh well. Brought the grill into the garage for winter & the tank is half full, I thought it was about empty but I doubt we'll get the chance to use it up this year. The good weather is behind us, so I also got the snowblower running with an oil change, new plug & fresh gas. Boy, I ain't looking forward to winter. I may look for some part time work to pass some time & pick up a few extra bucks. We'll see.

We are lucky here in this climate. I still grill most of the winter. We have a double carport attached to the front of the garage so I am able to wheel the grill out of the garage and grill. If there is a cold wind I can take shelter in the garage and watch the grill from the doorway. I actually saw a large snowblower on a facebook garage sale page the other day. People move here from up North thinking that since we DO get snow periodically they will need it. Most end up selling them after a year or two here.

I miss the grill in the winter. Nothing better then a grilled burger or a steak. I suppose i could grill in the garage if I opened the door but with an attached garage it's probably not a good idea even with a fire ext. close buy. I even leave the tank stored outside covered with a plastic storage bin. Sh*t happens.

I lived in an apartment long ime ago where the upstairs couple used to grill in the garage during winter months. Not every day but a few times a week. They would just open the garage door and grill away.
I didn't like the idea especially since my car was always in the garage and I hated having to go back outside and turn it on then back up and put in on the street then having to get up and return it to the garage. Sometimes people do not think of other people they just think of themselves.

We managed to dodge a bullet. The bad weather impacted areas all around us. There was wind damage and power outages to our South and to the North and West. The major portion of the most extreme weather moved in a Northeasterly direction just to our West and up into SW Virginia. We had some wind and a couple of hours of torrential rain but nothing that caused any damage or downed trees in our area.
It sounds like you guys in upstate NY will be battening down the hatches today, and due to all the flooding around that area, I would assume that staying home and staying off the roads is the order of the day.
It IS colder than hell here this morning. It went from a high of 77 mid-morning yesterday to below freezing around midnight last night. It dropped over 20 degrees immediately when the front passed through and continued to drop for the rest of the day and evening. It is only about 35 here right now, and only going into the mid-40s.

Just to be safe you might want to wear a pair of those little inflatable swim aids that go around your upper arms. No one will even know you have them on under your coat. Maybe the centro buses have those floatable seat cushions like aircraft do, just in case you have to abandon ship in the middle of Commercial Drive.
