I love Brussels sprouts. I eat them at least once or twice a week. Not long ago I ordered crispy, honey butter roasted Brussels sprouts at Longhorn Steakhouse. They were one of the premium sides that a person can order for an additional $1.99. I was disappointed. They were a woody and mawkish mess. The sprouts were roasted without parboiling and the core, or stem portion in the center was tough and bitter. I was like chewing on a stick.
I liked the idea, although their's were terrible. I bought some steam-in-the bag sprouts, steamed them for 4 minutes, rather than the six recommended on the bag, sliced each one in half lengthwise, placed them cut side up on a baking sheet, drizzled them with melted honey butter, and roasted them at 375 degrees until they began to brown. They came out tender and delicious.
Today I am going to use some fresh sprouts. I will boil them until tender but not mushy, and then will drain them well, slice them, place them on a baking sheet, cut side up, or on the racks in the air fryer oven, drizzle them with melted honey butter, and proceed to roast them as described above.
I make my own honey butter. I like it on biscuits and dinner rolls. I put a stick of real butter in a bowl, and drizzle in honey to taste while mixing with a fork. Personally, I like it with a good amount of honey.
I also like sprouts halved and drizzled with a buffalo wing style sauce made by melting butter and adding hot sauce, garlic powder, and just a drizzle of honey. Just enough honey to temper the hot and spicy, and add a subtle touch of sweetness.
