I just came in from the store and it is only in the low fifties outside. I had the heat on in the truck. I am done for the day. Kathy is making a big pot of chicken noodle soup. We love our homemade soups when the cool weather sets in. Heck, we like our soups even in summertime occasionally for a quick lunch or supper. I am settling in for a day of watching TV. Nascar race from Kansas Speedway and then a Hallmark movie or two. After supper, we have to turn to the 90 day fiance' so that Kathy can shake her head in disbelief that anyone would go to another country to find a mate. LOL
I think we are on the outside edge of the area being affected by that storm that blew into Florida and Carolinas. I have a friend that was in Daytona Beach for bike week. They take a fifth-wheel camper to sleep in and the other two ride their bikes. The person driving the truck, hauling the trailer has his bike inside the toy hauler. It rained so hard the other night that the management of the campground woke them up to move their motorcycles to higher ground because there was a foot of water all around their trailer. The trailer is what they call a "toy hauler" because it has large door on the back to able a person to put motorcycles or a golf cart inside. When they set up camp the back part has bunks that pull down to make the area a sleeping area.

Cold and wet here today also. I went for a walk around four blocks and downtown, which is dead, then back to home. Good thing I brought an umbrella.

I thought they predicted nice weather for today. So much for that idea. Tomorrow they're predicting sunny & 65. Hopefully, I'll be able to mow one last time for the season & finish up a few more yard chores. They're won't be many more sunny & 65 temp days for this year. The wife wants to hang Xmas lights early this year. Last year we did in 40* temps. Ain't doin' that again! And no, they ain't going to be lit till 12/1. LOL

My maples are still 50% green. They won't be done dropping leaves for at least a month. Grandson Mikey mowed for me last week. Grandson Tommy helped pick up fallen branches and apples.

LOL Get out that ladder, put on your finest Clark Griswold smile and git'r done, haha. The last time I hung lights from the eaves was when I lived on the lake. The snow slid off the roof and left them dangling in tatters. Nothing like taking them down from a 16 foot extension ladder, planted in the snow, and snow blowing around your ears. I used to put up the outside lights before it snowed, lit them on Thanksgiving, shut them off on New Years, and left the lights along the eaves in place until spring. Now we put a wreath on the door, wrap a lighted garland around the pole light by the sidewalk, and the rest of our decorating consists of a tree and a few inside decorations.

I still do step ladders but I don't do extension ladders anymore. I will put lights on the bushes on each side of the door. For the front of the house we bought a couple of those dancing light projectors. Any sunny day in November should be good enough.

I only go about 3 steps up a stepladder. For anything higher than that I hire someone to do it. I subscribe to the theory that Dave Griffin passed along to me shortly after an old aluminum 8-foot step ladder failed and I broke some ribs. His theory was that as we age any climbing on ladders should be limited, never letting our ass get any higher than our shoulders are when standing on the ground. That pretty much limits me to changing the fluorescent tubes in the workshop lights. I bought a step stool with a handrail that allows me to step up just high enough to wash the roof of the truck with a long-handled brush.

I leave the lights up till spring & only use a stepladder to hang them along the garage roof. We have a couple Arborvitaes that we wrapped lights around & the lights haven't been removed in at least 3 years. Plug & play. We use net lights for the shrubbery, easy. The boss mentioned one of those light projectors but I'm not sure i want to shell out $50-60 bucks for it.
