wcyb.com/news/local/kingsport-fire-department-rescues-2-mcdonalds-employees-stranded-60-feet-highA rather strange news story from Kingsport. Why the heck would two McDonald's be 60 feet in the air, stranded in the basket of a highlift? The story leaves a person wanting to hear more details as to how it came about. If I were a McDonald's employee, making the meager wage paid in the fast-food industry I think I would stick to asking folks if they want fries with that, and certainly would not be flying high above the golden arches on the end of the boom of a highlift. That would certainly require a pay adjustment of some sort.

It doesn't say that they were McD employees only that they were 3rd party contract employees.

I misread the report CB. Thanks for point that out. I was left to wonder why the hell employees would be up there. Looking closer at the photo it looks like they possibly may have been from a sign company judging by the size of the pole like structure in the photo and the type of boom that looks to have a crane type hook dangling. That McDonald's has one of those signs that towers about 80 feet in the air so that it is visible from I-81. That McDonald's was recently torn down and rebuilt to the new configuration with the ordering kiosks and the expanded and updated seating. Not long ago, while the construction was in progress, someone pulled onto the site during the night and hooked up to, and stole, an equipment trailer with a Bobcat on it. The McDonald's here in Bristol even has computer touch screens for kids. I guess they can watch video or play games on them. I have never seen one in use.

Barb and I got coffee at one of the updated McDs a couple months ago. I find the updated seating very uncomfortable.

I have yet to sit on the seating. My McDonald's experience is pretty much limited to stopping in for a sausage and egg muffin to go a cup of coffee to sip on my way to Johnson City to the VA. I noticed that they had several high tables like Bistro tables, and THEY looked uncomfortable. I am not a fan of the tables with the seats attached at ANY of the fast food places. I would rather have a detached chair that allows a person to sit as close to, or as far away from the table as they like. We don't eat a lot of fast food, and when we do want a burger I usually go to Burger King for their senior special on Wednesdays and bring it home.
