Kathy recently renewed her driver's license and was offered the opportunity to acquire the Real ID thing on her new license. It was an extra $10. We will not be going to Canada, and she is a afraid of flying so she won't be needing it at the airport. She is deathly afraid to fly and absolutely will NOT get on a plane. I on he other hand will get the ID marking on MY license. Gee, I wonder since you can't get into the federal building without the Real ID if a person who is arrested for a federal offense can just tell them when his trial comes up that he can't go into court because he doesn't have the Real ID thing on his driver's license.

I have a passport but when my DL came for renewal this year I decided to pay the extra $35 and get the enhanced version. Basically you need to provide 3 things: proof that you are here legally (birth certificate, naturalization documentation, current passport ...), proof that you are who you claim to be (accepted photo ID, passport ....), proof that you live where you say you do (property tax bill, utility bill in your name ...). I made sure I had each item covered at least two ways, clipped the paperwork in the proper order and went to the DMV.
Three different people commented on the organization of my paperwork. Apparently they were getting yelled at a lot by people who waited in line and then got sent home because they were missing a bit of paper.
