Buurp!! I ate too much this morning for breakfast, but it was Soooooo good. I couldn't resist it. Two large buttermilk biscuits made with their biscuit mix, sliced in half, smothered in sausage gravy made with their spicy variety store made breakfast sausage, and two eggs over easy on top of the biscuits and gravy. All washed down with two cups of hot black Folgers. I won't be wanting any lunch today. In fact I may not want much for supper either.
I may never have to make my own home made sausage again. Their sausage is very similar in taste to my own recipe with just enough fat to allow it to fry up well and sear on the outside without floating in grease. I also seldom make the sausage gravy from a roux anymore either. There is a packaged mix at Krogers that makes a cup and a half of peppered cream gravy, so I just add the cooked sausage and simmer it until thick. I tweak it a bit by using whole milk instead of the water, and some extra fresh cracked black pepper to wake it up a bit.
I try to eat healthy for two out of the three meals in a day, but breakfast has always been my downfall. I often don't eat lunch and normally eat a fairly healthy and diet conscious dinner, but for breakfast I tend to over do it and eat stuff that is far from healthy. At least 3 days a week I eat eggs, either sausage, bacon, or scrapple, grits with butter and salt and pepper, or hash brown potatoes, and topped off with two slices of rye toast with butter and two cups of black coffee.
Old habits die hard. I was never a cup of coffee and a pastry type breakfast eater. I want something that will carry me through the day. I may die of a heart attack at some point, but I will die with a smile on my face and gravy on my chin.
