Jerry Fiore just passed away as told by WKTV where he anchored the news for many years. RIP.

I always enjoyed the news when he was in Utica. He and Lyle "Boozly." When I still drank I used to frequent the Regency Lounge on James St. Major League Ump Bobie Salerno owned the joint. Lyle used to slurp martinis until about 9:30 or 10 before staggering out to go do the 11 o'clock news. I may have told the story before about the gal that someone dared to snatch Lyle's rug off his head. It was funny as hell to watch, but poor Lyle was mortified and mad as hell.
Does anyone remember where he went when he left WKTV?

They come and go from Channel 2 like they do from our Channel 5. They start out in a small market and when they gain some experience and make a name for themselves they move on to greener pastures. We are constantly watching interns doing the news and new meteorologists doing the weather.

It's like that on WKTV all the time. Always a new face to get used to.

Last I knew Jerry and Janet lived in Fairport NY a few doors away from a friend of mine. Hope he had a nice retirement before his passing. Another friend of mine and fellow ham radio operator, Fred Latus, worked at WKTV for over 40 years before he retired. He worked there longer than anyone else.
You're right Clipper... most any less than top-notch radio or TV station is just a stepping stone to bigger and better employment for the 'talent'. I guess the secret is knowing when to move on.
