NY is ranked 50th friendliest state? I guess we made the right move when we came to Tennessee. Tennessee is ranked 2nd friendliest.

The friendly nature of the people of Tennessee is one of the things that we first noticed when we moved here. Southern hospitality is not a myth. I am always impressed when shopping in a retail store here and need directions to find something. It is not at all unusual for the employee to drop what they are doing and actually take you to the item you are looking for. That goes for grocery stores as well as other retailers. There just seems to be more concern for a person's fellow man. When funeral procession goes by, not only do people yield to the procession, even if the procession is passing in the opposite direction, many will pull over and get out of their car and hold their hand or hat over their heart. It just is a slower and more peaceful lifestyle. Quite conducive to retired life.
It is hard to put a finger on it, but it just seems that there is an overall more friendly atmosphere here. While we always loved NY and the people, NY has a much more hurried lifestyle. People don't seem to take as much time to interact with those that they meet in their everyday travels.
But for the taxes, cost of living, and the winters Kathy and I would move back in a heartbeat, but if any of you are looking for a "friendly" place to retreat to and an escape from all the negative aspects of living in NY State, come on down.
