Is the change to the new plate going to be mandatory or will you be able to keep your present plate until it is deemed unserviceable? It doesn't seem like it has been too many years since they went back to the old black and yellow plates. Is this possible going to be a vanity plate as opposed to the only plate available?
I didn't realize that most of the blue and white plates were over 10 yrs old. Has it been that long since they reintroduced the black and yellow? When did the black and yellow come back out?
When I went to renew our tags for the trailer as well as the truck, I found that there is an entire wall dedicated to displaying all the vanity plates available. Everything from support for causes such as ducks unlimited, breast cancer research, VFW, DAV, dog lovers, cat lovers, several sport teams, college and pro, and many more too numerous to mention, as well as the ability to request your own letters and numbers provided that they are not offensive. Is that true in NY State also?
What the hell. Just give me a plate with black numbers, Sullivan County, the handicap designation, and a place for the expiration date sticker. The vanity plates are $35 extra each and every time you renew.

The history of NY plates can be found here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_New_YorkBarb and I both have the style which was issued from 2001 to 2010. My plate # starts with an A so it was from early in that period. It is 19 years old but still in very good condition. From what I have read any plate over 10 years old require replacement at the next registration. I think I just renewed my registration a couple months ago.

I didn't care for the choices they had, so I made my own. Hmmmm.......you have to click on it to see the whole thing though.
