I like the new law( if it was past) where by prisoners would be released from prison after serving 15 years or when reaching the age of 55. What in the hell is he thinking. They are not retiring from some worthy profession.

For as long as I have lived here, we have had the 1st or 2nd highest paid legislature in the country. They stay in office until they die or get elected to Congress. Our governor will be elected until he runs for President. We deserve who we elect.
Crossbows don't kill people. Quarrels kill people.
The internet doesn't make you stupid, it just makes your stupidity more accessible to others.
I think that the NY State legislature has lost any semblance of common sense, reality, or morality. There will always be prostitution. There will always be a market for sex, and there will always be a ready supply of people who provide the commodity. There are the high end call girl/boy operations that operate with a reasonable level of safety from disease and crimes such as robbery and assault of the customer, but at the other end of the spectrum are those who are addicted to drugs, afflicted with STD's such as HIV and Aids or are trafficked and controlled by pimps and drug dealers. When I worked nights at the OD as transportation manager I witnessed the problem in the downtown area of the city. I had one employee that was beaten and robbed by a pimp because he became involved with a young girl that he felt sorry for. He was in his 80's and was taken in by the girl when she told him a story of drugs, homelessness, and starvation, ending up with a pimp that gave her a place to sleep and drugs, but physically abused her and gave her drugs but didn't give her food or money for food. the girl was 17 yrs old. The old man would occasionally take her to a diner and feed her in the mornings after he got off work. He said she was so hungry that she would just about lick the plate. Her pimp stalked him and followed him home to Forestport and robbed him and beat him almost to death.
The only place that I am aware of that has legalized prostitution is Nevada, and there it is limited and strictly regulated. Do you think NY would even be able to come close to regulating and controlling legal prostitution in a place like NYC where hookers are active night and day, on side streets on the lower East side and even on Times Square? Most are drug addicted and many carry diseases. We used to park our buses on the side streets off of 12th avenue and we had to lock ourselves inside because the whores were constantly beating on the doors wanting to come inside. One of Central Coach's older drivers let one into his bus to get warm and have a cigarette and when she left she grabbed his trip envelope off the dash with his log book and expense money inside. I used to try to park on the roof of the Greyhound garage where I could safely take a cab from there to Times Square and back. The gutters on those side streets were littered with used condoms and drug syringes and the people on those streets were scary and sketchy. Only in NY would we see a concerted liberal effort to pass such a law. Hopefully it will fail when and if it makes it to the floor of the legislature. Welcome to Cuomo and DeBlasio's NY. If it made it to Cuomo's desk, he would probably sign it and take pride in "bringing high paying jobs to NY."

I don't see anything wrong with legalizing prostitution as long as it is controlled by the State and not administered by the private industry. The way Denmark does it. Keep it illegal so individuals who wish to sell their bodies on the street can be controlled and arrested like is the common practice. It really is just another form of entertainment for certain people. Like going to the movies or out to eat or to the beach is for some other folk. In this manner the male and female prostituted can be constantly checked by the Department of Health. The only other way to get around is to use life like robots but they will take some time.
Back to the subject of driver's licenses for illegals. Undocumented immigrants in this area are constantly in the news for being involved in accidents while uninsured. Not long ago they finally caught up with a Mexican man that had struck and killed a mother and her baby while driving drunk. He was charged with vehicular homicide, but somehow was released on bail. He fled back to Mexico and only recently did was he caught, back in the US. He had been deported twice before the accident and kept sneaking back in. He had no license and no insurance.
It is hard not to show any bias toward those people. A year or so ago I was behind a Mexican man at the checkout at the local grocery store. He cashed out a buggy full of groceries, and paid with a snap card. After I checked out, I went to the customer service desk for lotto tickets, and there he was, sending a Western Union money order back to Mexico for $500. He and several other families of illegals live in two houses next to Krogers, owned by a local Mexican merchant that openly harbors illegal immigrants, and has been busted for employing them in his businesses. He also owns what was once a convenience store near the race track that has a large second floor that was a hostel or dormitory like bunkhouse for race fans. That is also home to incoming immigrants, legal an otherwise.

That bill passed the House and is headed to the Senate. One good thing is that if illegal immigrants apply for a license that action on their part will notify ICE and that jerks can be deported. So I wonder if that is what these numb skull politicians are thinking but since this is another Democratic thought to destroy our State and Country I do not think they would want ICE to be notified. If passed these illegals can use the drivers license to vote. Now isn't that something the Democrats could use to increase their numbers in Washington.
Stop migrants from coming here & the produce found at local markets will be in short supply. Who's going to work the fields in this day & age? Nobody. And those idiots in Albany were talking about forcing farm owners to pay overtime to farm workers & putting them on a 40 hr. work week. They have no clue. Do they think fields & farm animals can stop being cared for after 4 o'clock? Not everyone closes out their work day at 4 & goes home or takes the summer off to head off to their camps on the water or their home in suburbia.
It would deal an especially devastating blow to the diary industry. The industry is already unfair to the producer. The low prices paid to the farmer for their milk leaves them with a very, very, slim margin of profit. I can't speak to the subject with any firm statistical knowledge, but I know one local dairy farming family in your area that milks over 700 cows, three times a day, plants around 1000 acres of forage crops on their own farm as well as on several large plots of rented land. Planting, tending and harvesting that volume of forage requires well over a million dollars worth of equipment, much of which is large and expensive given the large and expansive acreage tilled. It can't be done with the little tractors of the past that could only pull a plow that would turn 3 or 4 rows at a time, or a two row corn chopper. Today's tractors are massive and cost anywhere from 40 or 50 thousand dollars to in excess of $200,000, and several tractors of different sizes are necessary to tend that huge volume of field work.
Everyone in the industry makes more than the farmer, who by far puts the most blood, sweat and tears into the process from farm to table. Processing plants, wholesalers, and retailers all reap a larger profit from milk than the farmer does. That, and that alone is why you see small farms going out of business and large farms getting larger and larger, producing more and more milk in order to make enough money to stay in business, given the small margin of profit that they are paid after production costs.
