I was just watching the Weather Channel. We are getting a fairly strong sustained wind with gust upward of 35 mph. They said it was bad in NYC and Boston and they were delaying flights. Is it that windy in Utica? Are you getting heavy snow? I saw Vermont was getting heavy snow and whiteout conditions.
I was working in my shop when I heard this strange rumbling sound outside. It kept getting closer and closer. It turned out the be a garbage can from three houses up the road. It was rolling down the road and ended up blowing into our driveway and up against the tongue on the travel trailer. I couldn't believe the racket it was making. I was in the garage with the door closed and could hear it coming for quite awhile before it got to our driveway.
I just came back from Lowes once again. One project done, bought materials for the next endeavor. It finally got up to 58 degrees but with the wind I was not very warm even with a quilt lined flannel shirt.

They goofed on this storm in terms of Utica. Just light rain and very mild wind. I didn't even need to use the brolly during my travels. To top that off the McDonald's at Walmart North Utica has re-opened after its total makeover. Well done. I told the ladies there that I hope the place can be kept as clean as the McD's on Genesee St since you can eat off there floor. I do not think they were to pleased with that but to bad I have reported them enough times for being rather filthy. No reason for that.

When we came home about 8 last night it was 31 degrees with mixed rain and snow. Maybe 1/4 inch of snow when I got up this morning.

Sounds like you dodged a bullet. There were videos of the snow storm in Scranton Pa. on our local news this morning. It looked pretty nasty snowfall and visibility wise. I is supposed to get to 59 here, but it is taking it's time getting there. It is bright and sunny, but still pretty chilly to be outside without a warm coat on.

My daughter was supposed to drive from Myrtle Beach to here yesterday. She decided to delay until today. Probably a wise move.

Probably a wise decision. The storm has created havoc in places as far South as Maryland and Northern Virginia. Supposed to be even warmer here in the Southeast tomorrow. Hopefully that warming trend will extend to the travel corridor she will be using.

It was sure cold and windy again today. What's with all the wind these days. I do not remember it being so windy in past years. This has been crazy.

Well it made it to the low 60's by about 3 pm. I was working in the shop and in the back yard with a jacket on, went inside and changed to a flannel shirt, and then shed the flannel shirt to finish the day in a pocket t-shirt. I won't be happy until it is 60 when I get up in the morning and doesn't go below 55 or 60 all day long.
I have been fabricating a short picket fence that follows the slope of the ground under the old store building in the back yard. I bought 6 inch x 6 foot treated fence pickets, ripped them down to 3 inch by 6 foot, cut them to proper length, then cut the points on the top of each picket with a bandsaw. The ground slopes leaving a gap between the bottom of the building and the ground, sloping from 16 inches to 12 inches over a 5 foot running span, then leveling off at 12 inches for the remaining 15 feet. There is a rabbit living under the building and the little dog keeps trying to get under there to chase the rabbit. I truly enjoy working with wood and power tools. I have the pickets all cut to size now and all that is left to do tomorrow is to nail them to the 2x2 cross pieces with my air powered brad nailer.
Next project is lawn decorations. Little old gray haired ladies with polka dotted dresses and black high button shoes, sitting on a swing that can be suspended from a cup hook on a porch or from a tree. I bought the materials yesterday to fabricate several of them. I also bought the materials and 40 wooden wheels with which to make 10 very simple and basic wooden cars to donate to a local charity that runs a homeless shelter for women and children. I don't volunteer at the food pantry anymore. The most expensive material will be my summer supply of assorted colored paints in pint cans to paint the toys with.
I was looking at a book of plans for whirly gigs at Lowes yesterday. The look as though they would be fun to build. I can rent a 2 table stall at the flea market for $14 a day. I would like to gather enough of my woodcraft items to see if it would be worthwhile to sell some of the things I make. Contemplating purchasing a used wood stove for the shop so I can work comfortably out there year around without the cost of propane for the propane heater that is not really adequate size to properly heat the area. It takes the chill off but on real cold days I simply can't work out there.
