Kathy and I have been contemplating the purchase of an air fryer. Has anyone used one or know anyone that uses one? My biggest question would be this. Do they actually cook something like frozen French fries or breaded items such as fish filets or chicken wings so that they actually resemble or taste like something that was fried? They seem to be all the rage recently and they are being advertised by all the major retailers as well as on HSN and QVC. Kathy would like one but we want to know if they are actually all they are cracked up to be.
We seem inclined to buy into the hype whenever a new kitchen device hits the market. We have a Showtime Rotisserie that I wanted when they were all the rage. It is hard to clean after use so we only used it a handful of times and it has taken up space on the countertop for the last 5 or 6 years. We have a fairly good size sixty dollar deep fryer that I bought to do frozen French fries, homemade onion rings and chicken wings a few years ago. We used that for a few months and discovered that even with the range hood on high and the fryer sitting on the stove, the steam from frozen foods created a greasy vapor that gathered on the cupboard doors and bottom side of the hood. That sits on a shelf in a closet. George Foreman grill? On the shelf next to the fryer. Hamilton Beach Brew Station coffee maker relegated to back up status when we bought a Keurig. First Keurig is in the travel trailer because we bought the second generation with more features for the house. Mr. Coffee? He now lives on the bench in my workshop and brews a pot of Folger's occasionally while I am working in the shop. We also have a device from Black and Decker that opens jars. It has never been out of the box, but is on standby for when the day comes that my arthritic hands can't open that new jar of pickles.
Do you think it may be time to hold a kitchen appliance clearance sale on countertop appliances, or should I install another 15 or 20 feet of countertop and cabinets on the other two walls of the kitchen? LOL. If I sold the ones that are not used, I could probably net enough to purchase all the latest kitchen gadgets to hit the market for several more years. LOL It seems that Kathy and I are both members of the favorite target audience that infomercials, QVC, and HSN thrive on.
I would love to hear from someone that has used an air fryer, but yep, I will probably buy one anyway if I don't hear from anyone. Then I can tell YOU whether they are worth the money or not. If not the thing will join the assortment relegated to storage on a closet shelf.
