They already implemented it. I think it's in response to some of the comments left on the article about New Hartford Police assisting the Utica Police during Saranac as part of Project Impact. Amazing how so many in this "diverse" region can be so bigotted and racist.

Heck Dave. I went to the OD homepage and registered. It sent me an email at my yahoo account and told me to click on a link to verify. The so called link was not highlighted and could not be clicked upon.
I went back and tried to register with my hotmail address. I don't get any verification email on that one. I don't think the damned OD comment section is worth the trouble, haha!
I see where they needed to facilitate a registration process. The damned comments section was starting to look like "topix" haha!

From the lack of updates over the past weekend, and the slow posting schedules over the last month or so, I suspect there's a serious shortage of manpower at the OD website. That, along with a crippled content management tool, would account for the inability of moderators to keep up with the offensive posts.
If they had a proper word and IP filter in place they could have saved themselves a whole lot of effort.

Exactly Gear. When Ralph added a registration requirement to this site, and then we had a problem with a couple of members, and we banned them by IP, we have had no further problems.
Those features are what makes this site so amiable and civil. I am glad you finally made it here. Just a quick added Happy Birthday. I hope the day is going well!

I laughed when I saw the article. It didn't take them as long as thought it would for them to realize that a random comments section is not a good thing.
