How very sad. 27 cows left to starve in a barn with no feed or water available to them. I simply don't understand WHY the man would allow them to die. Even if he could not afford feed or was unable to take proper care of them he could have sent them to a livestock auction and sold them. Even an older dairy cow can be sold for meat, whether it be for hamburger or for dog food.
There is some debate as to whether cows are inhumanely slaughtered at packing plants, but cows are put down by a pneumatic gun that kills them with a plunger placed between their eyes, killing them immediately. Whatever one may think of that method of killing them, it is one hell of a lot better than leaving them to suffer and die of starvation.
I see absolutely no legitimate reason or excuse for the man's actions and I hope he is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
I would imagine that simply disposing of 27 cow carcasses will be a major undertaking. Maybe they should make the man that let them die dig a grave for them with a hand shovel.
