I know. Reality jumps up and slaps me upside the head with a carp too often. I lose at chess too.

We don't have to invade anybody. If Sadam hadn't been a lunatic, he could have been coerced by other means. I don't mean economic sanctions, I mean a few strategically placed acts of aggression. The plain fact of the matter is that the United States Military can beat any comer in the world in about 45 minutes. On an off day. We can take your country in a heartbeat. Everyone knows it, except the American press corps. Even Nancy Pelosi knows it. She just wants a Democrat in office when we do it. Bush is a guy who would do it and that's the reason why he's anathema to everyone in the middle east. They know he would do it. If Jimmy Carter were our sitting president, we would be dealing with significant terrorist attacks since 9/11. I think we had a land war in Iraq for two reasons: 1. we simply want to be there and you're blowing smoke up your ass if you think we'll ever leave. Even Nancy knows it. She doesn't want to bicycle to work, either. 2. The Iraqis are a bunch of imbeciles. A country comes in and frees them and they start killing each other because of rivalries from hundreds of years ago when someone burned down their yerts. We wouldn't invade Pago Pago and expect the coconuts to form a Parliament. (I'm overdoing it; actually Pago Pago is reputed to be a cultured destination.) Iranians are Persians and a modern people, mostly educated, who are no doubt capable of self government. And reason. Ahmadinezhad is just one of the best bargainers around. Compared to Sadam, he's probably only a little crazy.
