Yeah. Holy shit! Swimmy! You were going there tonight, weren't you?! You ok?
Wow. This is my favorite beer. What's going to happen with the Boilermaker?! I was going to take a tour when we got up this summer. I take a tour every year. I love Saranac. This is bad bad bad.

So far it is just the bottling area from what I hear. I was going to go down there but probably can't get within a mile of it. It is sad. So much history there. How ironic it happened on the opening night of Saranac Thursday.

Went down when it started and just stopped there again on our way home from a little league game. Couldn't really tell anything tonight because of the thick smoke in the whole area. We can smell the smoke up at my house. Bet Ralph is dying with the smell at DD, because the smoke is floating that way. All I can add is thank God everyone is accounted for. So far no one known was killed. When it first started the whole building on the Schuyler St. side was fully engulfed up to the roof. Couldn't see much more then that because of the fire and smoke and didn't want to hang around too long because of possible toxic fumes that might be in the air. Hats off to all Firemen from Utica and those areas that assisted. They got that hugh fire controlled in such a short period of time. Hats off to all the UPD and all other Officers from other areas that controlled the crowd and traffic already gathered for Saranac Night. YOU "ALL" ARE THE GREATEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Utica has alot to be proud of in ALL our Public Servants. ;D

Well it wasn't that bad as most of the wind was blowing it towards the east. I had to go in early as our Ops Manager was worried that we would have to shut down. As it was we were fine, but it was a helluva night.
Our company works pretty close with Kim at the Food Bank and we supplied tons of coffee for the firemen as well as every donut, muffin and bagel we had on hand as did the Oneida Square store as well.
Much busier than I would have liked, but more than worth every minute of it.
When I left I passed a UFD truck going back to its house only to find out it was from my sons company. He had been there since the original call came in around 5 and was just being relieved at 12:30 AM!!! So these guys really had a long day. Thank God that there were no injuries there. I know the UPD was out in force and they had a helluva long night as well.
There were still there working the fire when I left the store at 12:35 and was told they will be there for a good long time as well.
Now I am going to bed.

I was going there until i saw the huge smoke plumes. Then I turned around and went to Kilabrew where my ex decided to show up with fiance #3 and sought me out just to try and make me jealous. I wonder who she's cheating on him with. She cheated on me with him.
Why are women so evil?
Anyway, my great great grandfather was the carpenter who built the brewery and worked there until he retired. Too bad I'm like a 5th cousin they won't recognize because my parents are poor by comparison to them. Wait 'til I become a patent attorney, they'll be sorry.

We (Maynard) were called in shortly before 5:30 with the Air Van 279 to fill Air bottles. It's still there. The Van usually responds to every major fire in Utica and Eastern Oneida County. Van 278, stationed at Vernon Center, covers the western part of the county and was put on stand-by incase we had to re-fill.
We made up two- hour shifts for overnight. Thank God for our AARP guys to fill in for us working types.
Around 6PM we were called to go stand-by at Whitesboro's station with our Engine 4. Got home about 11PM last night.
Hats of to the great co-ordination between Utica and the volunteers. I know the union types are gonna squeal over this but it shows, as we discuss here all the time, working together can lead to good things.

Does anyone have any news (fact, not rumor), that hasn't been released to the media yet?

Oh, I don't know...I just know that rumors start quickly after stuff like this happens, and I'm more interested in hearing facts, not rumors! I haven't heard any rumors yet, but I'm sure I will.

Gotcha.
I know my dad could see the smoke plume from Vernon on his way home from work. My friend who bartends at one of the bars on varick street was told he was on call, but then his father who works with the upd told him the street was closed for the night and not to worry about going in. He was bummed because he could have made an easy $300 in tips.
As far as I am aware, the fire was still going into the wee hours this morning with several hotspots according to wktv news broadcasts this morning. I have not heard whether the fire dept or the police dept has determined the cause of the fire. A brewery spokesperson said they believed it was just an accident.
That's about all the news I have.

I don't like being in crowds. Just a phobia I have. It bring on terrible anxiety, so I avoid crowds. However I have been working on this problem with my shrink and in my last session I agreed to at least go down to the Thursday night event. I got there and not many people and then the fire started. I left. I knew something dreadful would happen if I was in a crowd. My next session with my shrink will be fantastic.
