I love these things. Very juicy sweet tart. Sort of an apple and pear cross. I was first turned on to growing Asian pears by a friend of ours who grew a wide range of uncommon fruit. A member of the North American Fruit Explorers, he had a yard that was full of berries, apples, plums, pears, apricots, kiwi, persimmons, peaches, and more but he said that the Asian pears were by far his favorites.

They sound good Will. The only pears I have ever eaten are the Bartlett pears. My mom and dad had a very prolific pear tree in their back yard. Kathy used to can a pear compote that we would use on toast, or put a spoonful on roast pork. It was pear, raisins, cinnamon, and a bit of vanilla extract.
Mom and dad are gone, as is the pear tree. The first thing the new owners of their house did was cut down the pear tree along with a chestnut tree in the backyard. Haven't had the compote in years. Probably would not bother to make it if we have to buy the pears at supermarket prices. She used to prep and can about a bushel to provide compote for the entire family.
I will have to be on the lookout for the Asian variety so that I can try one. Don't recall ever seeing them.
