ANNUAL POlICE AWARDS

Just got back from the annual Police Awards ceremony.
Went as a proud Mom to watch my boys receive awards and came back as a very concerned W.Utican.

Think our city officials don't know where most of the crimes are being committed. Almost every award given to our Officers stemmed from arrest made in W.Utica, from shootings to murder to hugh drug busts, illegal weapons and etc., etc.

I know in the past I have been rather upset that many concentrate on Cornhill's problems, but I guess you have to live in it to inform those who are suppose to be in the know what is really taking place. Cornhill certainly have their problems but W.Utica's equal those in Cornhill and should be addresses just as strongly. It's time to get down to business in all areas.

Also in the past, I have heard arguments (mostly on the OD forum), concerning simple traffic stops made by our Officers and some stated these were not important. Well, let me assure anyone who has their doubts, these simple traffic stops here in Utica are very warranted and have yielded hundreds of illegal assault weapons, drugs and dangerous parolees being sent back to prison.

I being a member of a large law enforcement family consider myself very informed on many things taking place in my area and yet these Officer's awards even opened my eyes up to what is really happening all over the city of Utica and our surrounding areas. Things are "extremely" worse and should scare everyone to come out of their homes and get involved in their community problems.
How well I know it's always the SAME people who do get involved but it's going to take all of us, no matter where you live, to start to get involved and do what you can.

The city will be putting on 14 more Officers very soon. We need those Officers desperately and from the way I see it, we'll need more as time gives on until we take our city back from the scum.
Please call your council people, your legislators and find out where YOU can be of assistance. Get involved! I'm sure there is something you can offer to aid those that are already trying to so hard to improve our area for all of us.

GOD BLESS ALL THOSE WHO ARE OUT THERE EVERY SINGLE DAY SERVING AND PROTECTING US.

Congrat's to all of the officers! Congrats to you bobbbiez for your accomplishments in raising wonderful sons! You must be proud!
The crime situation is not limited to Cornhill or west Utica it is everywhere.
The drug problem is increasingly scary!
I hope and pray that more people do get involved before the scumbags take over.
I pray everyday for our law enforcers that they will return home safely.

Smiley, thank you for the refreshing compliments. Yes, I am very proud of them as I am of all my kids. They make me proud but as Wcup can testify to just knowing my son, Eddie, they also make me crazy. All nut cases! ;D I know, I know before Clipper gets on my sh*t, "the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree."

You are so right as I've been preaching for years now. Everyone HAS to get involved before the evil rears up in their own backyards. No one is safe no matter where you live. It is a cancer and spreading too damn fast.

Bobbiez - Congratulations to your sons! I know what it is like to have family on the force. My cousin is a police officer for UPD as well. And my friends husband is along with many of my friends.. I am honored to know them and live in the same city as them. UPD has great men .. And about the routine traffic stops--- I think they are great.. If it wasn't for them we would not find some of the people that have warrants out, drugs in their car, etc.. Great job upd..

I know he loved the undercover work and misses it, but as a Mom I'm sooooooo glad he is out of there.
It might sound a little selfish on my part but it's time the younger ones take over. If ya know what I mean. Just don't let him know I said that. He still thinks I feel he's the baby of my boys. Actually, in my book he's quite "the man."
Again, don't let him know I said that. We both have this cool image to portray. ;D

My husband has been in the task force for seven years. I'm very proud of him however I think I would sleep much better if he would go to CId. He loves what he does and for that I'm Proud!

You are so right. Uticans should be very proud of their Police Force. They are the best. We often only hear if one is accused of doing something wrong. Most don't stop to realize an Officer is human also. They are doing the very best they can and today they face the lowest of scum who don't fear or respect anyone.

I'm not just only praising our Police department but all law enforcers in all departments all over the country. One can only image what they have to deal with on a daily basis.

Even me, having family members as public servants throughout my whole life thought I knew much of what their day consist of, learned much more when I attended the Citizen's Police Academy a few years ago.
I always feared for their safety but in attending the Academy it brought the reality of the dangers they faced every single day into a deeper focus. I learned a whole further range of respect for all of them.

I just wish most of the public would attend the Academy. Boy, what a different view all would have after seeing first hand what our Officers are expected to do. Besides facing the dangers they accept becoming an Officer, you just can't image the pressures they face that come with the job. It truly is unreal.

Smiley, as well as you should feel the pride for your better half. I'm proud of him also. Not the easiest division but they love it.

Tell him I congratulate him on this the Awards day. I know they are the ones, for safety reasons, who do not get publicly acknowledged, but let him know to some their work does not go unnoticed or praised.

I remember a few years back when my son and his partner were sent by the city to Florida to receive an award from the FBI for cracking a most difficult drug ring and no one could acknowledge it here in his own area because of safety issues. I don't have to tell you how hard that was for me to keep it all inside while I was busting with pride.

Please take comfort and know many of us say our prayers for all those Officers known and unknown to the public.

God blesses you to Smiley. Many don't stop to think there is a family behind each Officer and what that family feels as their loved one walks out the door each day to do their jobs to protect and serve, but many of us do. Our prayers are always with your Officer and you.

Congrats to you as a mom and all the officers on the UPD for the work they do.

Over the last few years I have watched some things go up and some things come down.

After Tom's shooting, whenever I am out and see a traffic stop at night, I pull over a ways away and wait until either it is obvious things are fine or until I hear the "Code 4" over the radio.

While I have no authority or place as I used to, I figure that maybe the site of the van might help to deter anything untold from happening.

And if it does, at least they have a witness to it.
I will be damned if I ever happen to be nearby and have something happen to one of ours again.

I have many of them stop by the store while on patrol.
I could care less what "corporate" policy may be......these Officers can have anything they want from whatever store I am in anytime!

Hey Ralph, please do me a favor as a Mom of Officers now on a diet. Give them all the coffee they want but you have my permission to slap their hands if they reach for a donut. lol!!!!!!

They always took good care of themselves but Eddie who tends to put weight on fast is on this diet and I almost didn't realize him the other day. He lost 40 lbs. and I haven't seen him that thin since he was a teenager. Sh*t, I told him if he turned sideways no one would see him. I guess that's good if he wants to go undercover. ;D

I thank you for all your support, now and as you've given in the past. You are one of the best in my book. As I keep saying, we ALL need to get involved.
