Have you ever heard of cooking lettuce? I certainly had not. A cooking show on the local Christian channel had a cook on last night that made braised romaine. She too three heads of romaine and cut them up into bite sized chunks, added a medium sized sweet onion, finely chopped, a couple of tbsp of olive oil, 2 cloves of garlic, salt, pepper, and a small amount of water in order for the steam to wilt down the romaine. I personally will use low sodium chicken broth in the place of the water. She also said that if a person wanted to, they could add a couple of slices of crisp bacon, crumbled and sprinkled on the top. She cooked it on the stove top until all was soft, tender, and the flavors had blended and been absorbed into the lettuce. I haven't tried it, but I plan to do so in the near future. I will let everyone know how it comes out. It just doesn't seem like a stellar dish that I would want to eat very often.
