No need to apologize countrygal. The disgrace "moderators" just don't know how to moderate. They have allowed Concerned Citizens to keep the links they have in their signatures. It's just that time for Fran to make his usual irrational "moderating" decisions and our links and posts were next in line.

It seemed innocent to me. Is there a provision in their TOS about providing links to other sites? I wouldn't know -- I never read those things.

It was an innocent post. They're just upset that so many people are leaving their site and coming here. But what did they seriously expect?

I would not even take the time to go back and research the TOS. I have always found it very redundant and open to definition of the moderators.
Countrygal, no need to apologize. We have all been waiting and wondering how long the links would be allowed. We didn't intend for this board to hurt their board, but it obviously had a negative impact on the number of posters that have been utilizing their site.
Absolutely no harm done, and we just have to take their TOS for what it is and just shake our heads when we don't agree with it. They did take down the NH posts that were getting nasty and the links that were associated with the posts.
I can only suggest that if one doesn't like the rules on their page, just post on ours. Ulitimately their page is a source for threads to be posted on ours, and I thank those of you who read the OD and bring the pertinent threads into being on our page.
This is not a competition to see who can maintain the most members. The web is a large place and there is room for all of us on here, haha.

In all fairness thats the way many message boards I've run across are.

I think I have a totally unbiased (and probably useless) opinion. If I ran a newspaper, I'd steer clear of comment boards and instead encourage others to start them up independently and separately. I'd probably get less grief than by running my own and hosting a bunch of malcontents...present company excepted. Sure, they'd be knocking my paper all the time, but they wouldn't be knocking the way I administer a board, which might be more of a source of rancor. (Disclaimer: my Dad worked for the OD, retiring in 1974. I stuffed comics on Monday nights for them in college, after having a paper route in high school. Also, I have always loved their building's facade. They published my wife and my engagement picture a few days after their deadline, as a favor. But none of this sways my opinions.)

I know the forums at Syracuse.com has the same issues as the OD. I used to post there all the time...for YEARS, but just got annoyed with not only the random moderation, but the childish name calling that went on there between some members.

Maybe you should put on the other forum "Clipper's Corner's Mission Statement". It looks like that's what works for the New Hartford bunch!

Eh, the od is just upset that it lost us. Unlike clipper, i hope they do end up losing everyone and they all come over here. The od has gone out of its way to make it difficult to do anything of interest that is conducive to public discussion. They deserve everything that happens to them. I disagree that they have to conform to a corporate directive. I find it illogical that a corporate directive to drive posters away would benefit the corporation. But I'm not a business major and never took a business class.

It's still posted in the Weekend Plus/Fusion forum of the OD, I keep forgetting to write it down, so I guess I better if they delete it.

Been debating internally what is worth fighting for. Not much new, just keep pluggin' along like everyone else. Generally, I'm not political, nor do I speak to many of the outrage topics posted, many topics aren't relatable to me, so I lurk once in awhile and when something seems at my level of conversation I'll join in.
