Consanguinity in the !st degree was always one Cannon Law code that I found interesting. How anyone would even consider entering in a marraige contract know this is beyond reason. Royalty and money, keeping it in the family, often caused consanguinity problems. All the heads of state in Europe were related at one time. Today's British royal family is actually German, and had their name changed to Windsor so it sounded more British. Marriage, after all, was only the for rich, as far as legalities were concerned, until only recent times. If you formed a marriage union with someone from your community in the middle ages, after the party you did nothing formal about it except often meet the priest on the stairs of the church ... not inside, and certainly not on the altar ... for his blessing. This was before the RC CHurch decided to call it a sacrament, I think in the 12 or 1300's.
