Looks good. I'll read it tomorrow. Downtown Newark, if that's where they are, is a pretty dangerous place.

As you say Alan, "God is in the inner city." I am not an extremely religious person, but I believe that much could be accomplished if God were not only in our inner cities, but if God were brought back into our government, our schools, and our LIVES. This nation was founded upon Christian beliefs and principles, and it is the fading of those beliefs and principles from our lives and from our nation has in my opinion brought about much of the disconnect and division. While there is a necessity for separation of church and state, there is not a necessity for the deletion of God from our daily lives and from our government. The "CHURCH" should remain separate and should never be allowed to dictate government policy or interfere with legislation, but our own basic Christian beliefs and those of our forefathers has made this nation strong and great. It seems that diminishing of Christian compassion and principled living has brought about the discord and chaotic atmosphere present today.

I was reading an article about the lack of the belief in God among so many people today and it said the reason for this lack of faith in God is because people say they cannot find proof that God exists or that their is no empirical evidence that God exists. Perhaps it is easier to say that these people just do not have faith. Faith is an act of the intellect and the will. Faith is a firm belief in something for which there is no proof; complete trust. Believing is a human act, conscious and free, corresponding to the dignity of the human person. Faith is also a supernatural gift from God. In order to believe we need the help of the Holy Spirit. I like what St. Thomas Aquinas said about faith. Faith is a foretaste of the knowledge that will make us Blessed in the life to come. I have prayed over that sentence many many times.

I didn't read the article you mention, Alan, but I wonder how the author determined a lack of belief in God in a population. In my volunteer work I found just the opposite, but fewer and fewer people subscribing to the common 20th century creeds. Which is where I believe the problem resides.
